My 5.5 gallon red rili shrimp tank has been established since the spring-summer. There are at least 100 shrimp in there....and even more ramshorns.
I change 1/2 gallon of water every week since I know they are sensitive to change in their water parameters.
I just tested...
Thank you PascalKrypt ! I didn’t realize until I rewatched her in the video, that she is not moving her tail at all, you are right!!
I didn’t drop the water level, I find that her filter creates pretty turbulent water when the water level is even more than 1/2” below the output. She actually...

AQUARIUS1618 ...I just have an update to my suggestion. Lately a few shrimp, of all sizes, have been making it into the internal compartment of my filter...the area with the media...even with the pantyhose covering the intake. The have all been alive, except for one. The death prompted me to...
I am not sure how I missed your post...thank you angelcraze !! The Amanos look much bigger than I expected, I am going to forget about them going into a 10gallon...that’s not really fair to them. Thank you :)
I have a 5gallon with red rilis, but I am attached to them and would be devastated if...
Thank you! I haven’t had Amano before, I didn’t realize 2.5 was too small for qt for them...thank you! Would 5 g be okay or just stick to 10 gallon? I will use a bin if I can’t get a tank. I have lots of water lettuce in my other tanks...I am throwing out buckets per week!! I really need to learn how...
I thought I had read about an intestinal parasite they can carry and transfer to fish but I could be mistaken!
And can they transfer ich? I don’t think they can really get the actual disease, but can carry and therefore transfer it to fish?
I could be wrong though :)
Thank you both! I have been happy with how this tank is doing, which is why I haven’t changed anything in the last few weeks even though juvenile shrimp were in the filter. It scared me more today finding two fairly large ones in there.
I would rather not change anything either since...
I have an established 5.5 g with many cherry shrimp (70+??) it’s been running since July with the shrimp in, previously they were in a smaller tank.
Anyway, I have two filters on the tank...a tiny sponge filter and an internal filter..tetra whisper 10i . The intake is covered...
I would like to add a couple Amano shrimp with my young female Betta in my established 10gallon (ramshorns and a nerite are her tankmates at the moment). She is still small, just over an inch in length.
I know I should qt the shrimp prior to adding them in with her. I have a 2.5...
I have cherry rili shrimp in a 5.5 gallon tank, with the same filter...you can put the closed toe part of pantyhose over the bottom of the filter covering the intake. Does that make sense? Then they can’t get sucked in.
The other alternative is to get a sponge filter, run by...
Thanks JessicaSwanlake ! I haven’t heard of that product before...I will look into it!! The only ones they really go for are the ones that look like grass...so so big palms for me, and dracenas have to be put up high. I will check out that product though! Thanks!!
Thank you! You guys are awesome!
I probably wouldn’t have picked up the Ledebouria if it was labelled...looking it up, it is highly toxic to cats...we have 5. Sigh. Will have to make sure it stays away from them for sure!!
I love seeing everyone’s plants!!! I can’t help myself getting a couple when I get the chance too!!
I picked up these unlabelled guys at a thrift store today...the big one is a species of eipiphyllym I think.
I have no idea on the little one. Spotted leaves, swollen rhizome-like structures...
Hi LucieGuppy13 ! I am new to shrimp keeping as well (February this year)...most things I have learnt, I have learnt on Fishlore
I am not great at sexing shrimp yet, and sometimes it’s easier to tell with a picture from the top down (so that the saddle is more visible) but from the shape of...
I actually think they are acting super active! It seems to be the young adults...maybe the water changes brought on molts...females are ready to breed and males are chasing them?
The fertilizer shouldn’t cause it, right?!
I see multiple tiny shrimplets so hopefully that means conditions are...
