Help Young Catfish Dying, Flashing, Not Eating, Possible External Parasite

Pulled a dead fish out of the filter intake today. Did a water change. Not fun.

Help Young Catfish Dying, Flashing, Not Eating, Possible External Parasite

I water changed today 30% or so but stopped the ich-x. I sucked up and stirred up quite a bit of bacterial bloom from under/on the wood and a little off the sand. Maybe my water is full of autotrophic bacteria? I've had white cloudy water before. Netted out more, hopefully the airstone stirs the...

Help Young Catfish Dying, Flashing, Not Eating, Possible External Parasite

I've not seen ich but they're so fast to examine and thought it could've been a protozoan parasite as well. But that's very interesting. My AQ was slow after yesterday's WC so I rinsed the mechanical sponge in tank water and it had quite a bit of sand. I'll also turn it up now because they...

Ended up doing water change and 4 teaspoons of Ich-x. I'll continue for now for lack of better ideas.

Missing Fish Stuck Inside Ornament? What Would You Do?

I think what happened was my catfish we're so thin and small and prone to hide that they got into those tiny ornament holes that fills with water to sink something. Probably rare but something to think about. My new rock cave only has one "wall" to it. Like an upside down cup with openings and...

Help Ammonia Spike To Cycled Tank, Too Small A Bioload? Thoughts? (2 Deaths So Far)

I thought I would update this thread with a possible reason for the ammonia spike. It appears one fish got into a tiny hole in a ceramic ornament, got stuck, and died. I think when I did a headcount I made a mistake counting one fish twice. I made another thread when I suspected a missing fish...

Missing Fish Stuck Inside Ornament? What Would You Do?

Sometimes it seems like fish are trying to find ways to kill themselves :woot:

    The Business Of Aquariums/fishkeeping

It sounds like everyone has sort of brought your attention to setup, maintenance, breeding as a foot in the door, etc. And that is a promising avenue! But if only because you are in Florida I thought I might bring your attention to what they call "fish-farming" (it's not food aquaculture). Maybe...

Missing Fish Stuck Inside Ornament? What Would You Do?

Woah. So, thanks for the advice.. I went to take it out and thought, maybe if it's still alive inside I'll put it into a bucket of room dechlor room temp water. I did that and in my tank upfloats a dead fish with no tail. I think it like fell out the bottom or something. Then I look back to the...

Missing Fish Stuck Inside Ornament? What Would You Do?

Alright, I had an ammonia spike a few days ago with unknown cause. 2 confirmed deaths. I thought I had 6 healthy baby Lucipinnis left. Now I'm second guessing my head count. Only 5 came out last night and tonight to eat. This ceramic ornament has a little hole on top to sink itself. I've seen...

Help Ammonia Spike To Cycled Tank, Too Small A Bioload? Thoughts? (2 Deaths So Far)

I definitely did a 90+% water change before I added new fish to flush the nitrates so no worries there. My tap water is at about 8 with a high kH so I'm not worried about fluctuation. After testing both twice it looks like my tap water has higher ammonia than my tank does. Tank is looking...

Help Ammonia Spike To Cycled Tank, Too Small A Bioload? Thoughts? (2 Deaths So Far)

I had always thought 4-5 ppm cycled per day supports a huge bioload. And then it was fine with no spikes for over a week. Considering they were fasted yesterday would you feed today? I'll do a big WC tomorrow if the bottled bacteria has no effect on the ammonia level.

    Help 65 Gallon Tank Lights

Beamswork and Nicrew both have LED plant lights that looked more affordable than Finnex last time I looked. Beamswork has a pretty good reputation for a budget led. Nicrew is slightly more expensive but has similar 4/5 star reviews on Amazon. If you go Beamswork you can get their FSPEC or full...

Help Ammonia Spike To Cycled Tank, Too Small A Bioload? Thoughts? (2 Deaths So Far)

I'm having a pretty helpless feeling over here right now. Tank is a 45 gal. It was cycling 4ppm per day. About 10 days ago I stocked 8 little 1 inch baby Synodontis lucipinnis. Yesterday I found a dead fish and another swimming at the surface. Ammonia: 0.5, nitrite 0, nitrate 5 ppm. Nitrate is...

Question What Is Your Favorite, coolest Catfish Species You Own

I love Synodontis, the behavior is just cool to look at. Definitely oddballs. My new baby lucipinnis are little acrobats, like they're weightless. Here's one nibbling on a driftwood bacterial bloom.

    Petricola Cat Fish

I have dwarf petricolas that I got just 2 days ago as well(take my advice with a grain of salt). They like a meatier diet more like a Cory than pleco but any sinking catfish pellets I'm sure they'd like. Maybe just cut with a razor if they're huge. My breeder used regular crushed flake so...

Does Anyone Know Where To Get A 40 Gallon Breeder For Cheap

That makes a lot of sense as far as my area gave me a lucky deal for an acrylic tank but glass is arguably just as good. Doesn't scratch, doesn't need support on the entire bottom. If I did a fish room it would be glass because racking is easier and algae scraping is stress free. The only big...

Thanks, I will. They're so tiny and fast so pictures are hard, haha. I'll try to get some and update on their status later.
