How Long Until Ammonia Rises? Saltwater Tank

Just went down to 0.25 ppm If I put it snails and hermit crabs will that speed up the cycle? Of course I will add invertebrates as a cuc for the live rock and eventually corals, but how will inverts affect the cycle?

How Long Until Ammonia Rises? Saltwater Tank

The live rock pulled was pulled out from a tank in the lfs. Does this mean it’s an instant cycle? Should I not add Dr. Tim’s?

How Long Until Ammonia Rises? Saltwater Tank

Thanks for the help. I will for sure ask next time at the local fish store if the rock I got was cured. You can see above when I posted pictures that the ammonia lined up with the 0.5 so I think it must be. I put it here. And also I’ll check next time at the lfs to see if what I bought was dr...

How Long Until Ammonia Rises? Saltwater Tank

Yes I bought live rock from the lfs. But doesn’t it need to be cycled? I did show a picture of ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates, and nitrates are at 0. But could be that it’s higher, just closer to 0 so api kit reads it as 0.You said freshwater and saltwater api tests are the same, but are the...

How Long Until Ammonia Rises? Saltwater Tank

Another thing I forgot to mention is that I didn’t buy another saltwater test kit; I’m using the fluids for the freshwater ones and the color chart except for ph and ammonia, which the person at the store gave me different cards for. No living things are in the tank yet; I’m doing a fish less...

How Long Until Ammonia Rises? Saltwater Tank

Hi there, this is my first saltwater tank, and it’s been more than a week since I set it up, but no signs of ammonia. I’ve been putting in a small pinches of omega one freshwater flakes, more or less every day, but there have been days when I’ve forgotten to. It’s a 40gal, with 40 lbs of live...

    Help! Algae!!

Agreed. When you're doing a water change, and the water level is down and algae is exposed. Do it then rather then when the tank is full so that the algae doesn't float off into the water but rather stays on your sponge. Another option is to get algae-eating snails.

    Guppy Friendly Clean Up Crew

Yes for sure you can have some apple snails! Only they get very big, so if your tank is under 10 gallons maybe consider a smaller snail

New Baby Rams Horn Snails, Help!!

I’m going to leave all the snails in including the Assassin snail. I’m pretty sure they will clean out the baby snails at least, and possibly the bigger ones too. From what I’ve heard on this thread, they tend to go for the small ones.

    40b Saltwater Tank?

Flameback angelfish. You could get 1-2 along with other peaceful reef fish. Or cherubfish, which are very, very similar, but perhaps a bit smaller and with an orange face and not back

New Baby Rams Horn Snails, Help!!

How about I start with one assassin snail and if it takes care of the problem, I leave it at that, if not, I get one more. By going to do with them do you mean ramshorn shells once the assassin has eaten them? Or do the assassin snails eat the baby snails whole?

New Baby Rams Horn Snails, Help!!

Ok if you guys really think so I'll pick up an assassin snail on my next lfs trip. I just don't want it to affect my other snail populations too much, especially my Nerites since (one is alive!) I had been planning on picking up one more so there would be two in there but buying a new one with...

New Baby Rams Horn Snails, Help!!

Thanks, all of you. I am not sure I want to risk my nerites being attacked, but it is possible that all of them are dead I found all three of them, one of which had been missing for over a month, the other a few weeks, the other not too long, at most a few days, all outside the tank, on the...

New Baby Rams Horn Snails, Help!!

@mattgirl how many assassin snails could I keep to keep the ramshorn numbers under control but at a steady low number? Also do assassin snails harm nerite snails?

New Baby Rams Horn Snails, Help!!

Thanks. So say I want to reduce the numbers but keep a few; these methods you mentioned (both of you), do they get rid of all of them?

New Baby Rams Horn Snails, Help!!

its a 10 gallon. The first day I saw a baby and got excited, now (a few days later) tank front is covered with them. I’m worried it’s going to spike the ammonia. I’m excited for this new experience and everything, this is the first time my critters have successfully breeded... anyways, what is...
