    Cycling Tank + Ich

    It is likely that the filter is not cycled. Bottled bacteria will not provide an 'instant cycle'. I'm afraid you received poor advice there. Taking out the carbon will not effect cycling, it was necessary to ensure that the medication was not removed from the water.

    Cycling Tank + Ich

    I can't seem to access those attachments but I'd be inclined to rely more on the liquid test than the test strips.

    Fish-in cycle questions

    I don't know I guess it's a question for Tetra. Seachem does not have any similar restrictions for using Prime with Stability which is their own brand of bacteria.

    Fish-in cycle questions

    I have read comments in the past from Seachem to the effect that, even when bound in an inert state to Prime, sufficient ammonia is still available as a food source for bacteria. Edit: I found the comment: "Prime converts ammonia into a complexed iminium salt. This salt is a nitrogenous...

    Fish-in cycle questions

    I would wait and see what happens with your ammonia readings before adding more fish. You only started 5 days ago. A little patience now will pay off in the end.

    Pre filter on intake tube.

    Have you replaced the Top Fin cartridge with a sponge? If not, that might be an option that will allow you to dispense with the pre-filter.

    Flowerhorn? Yes or no?

    Yep, it's just what I read, I have no personal experience with them. Pretty safe to say though that even if he gets a small 2.5" juvie it could outgrow a 36" tank very quickly.

    Flowerhorn? Yes or no?

    I read that they can grow very fast, up to 2cm per month in their first year.

    Aquarium Setup Pics!

    Some might prefer sand but most easy to grow plants will do fine in gravel. Many of them will grow fine even if left floating on the surface.

    Aquarium Setup Pics!

    What’s BR? Bristlenose? They don’t bother her. The cichlids are not interested in other fish except for a bit of huff and puff when they are breeding. Lots of easy grow plants to choose from, anubias and java fern can be attached to decorations, plants like water wisteria, Amazon swords...

    Aquarium Setup Pics!

    Yes there are some Boesemani in there. The substrate is just a mix of 2 types of sand. I think some extra cover may help your gourami. The Tiger Barbs don’t pick on him do they? Can understand your hesitation with live plants, I kept only fake ones for many years. You don’t have to switch over...

    Aquarium Setup Pics!

    Welcome. Nice tank, the blue gravel is certainly eye catching. I wonder if some extra cover or even a couple of female dwarf gouramis will help make your guy feel more comfortable in the open. I don't know what Canes are but I wish them luck. ;) My current layout, always slowly evolving...

    Flowerhorn? Yes or no?

    About a foot long. I wouldn't keep one in a tank less than 5' x 18".

    New tank setup

    Also do you know your tap water parameters, pH and hardness? Just in case they are extreme one way or the other. While most common aquarium fish are adaptable it’s always easiest to keep species that are compatible with your tap water without adjustment.

    Ich = stressed fish?

    In my experience it can infect healthy fish, though they are more resistant to it, and some species are more susceptible than others. Stressed fish may be less resistant, may succumb more quickly and be less likely to recover. I do not believe that Ich is always present. I know some people...

    Ich = stressed fish?

    It's very likely that the paradise fish had Ich when you introduced it to the tank. It's not always visible, particularly in the early stages.

    Schooling fish

    Red Phantom tetras might be another option. Columbians are very colourful but I'm not sure if they are fin nippers.

    How Often Do You Feed Your Fish?

    Flakes & pellets in the morning and a small amount of fresh or frozen in the evening. Duckweed as an occasional addition.

    Fluval 306 rattling

    I think that's pretty good considering you get the cover as well. If you want though you could try just a replacement impeller and shaft.
