    An Experimental Tank

Update: the Monte Carlo is indeed growing but in an interesting way. The submerged ones are spreading out as expected but the ones that are being sprayed are growing both horizontally and vertically. They've grown roots by now so they should be much more secure. I'm considering flooding the...

    Screw In Light Fixtures

Let's have a lighting discussion for those of us who still have the old screw-in type of light fixtures for our tanks. With CFLs slowly going out of use and LEDs increasing in use, which options would be best to grow plants with? Recently Amazon stopped stocking the GE Lighting 14-Watt...

    An Experimental Tank

I'm only following what the YouTube videos on dry starts did. I think once the plants fill out, the blue sand river will look better and more natural. So I did a bit more research and learned that Co2 will be needed when converting over to submerged because of the amount of Co2 taken from the...

    An Experimental Tank

It's Crayola play sand. Completely tank safe and non-toxic. It's literally the softest sand I've ever felt in my life. If you do a search, there are threads about it on here. I think someone had a goldfish tank with the same sand. And I'm not really planning on fish with this tank. It will...

    An Experimental Tank

I decided to try an experiment: Dry starting a 20 Long and keeping two different color sand separated in addition to creating an Iwagumi-inspired aquascape. I filled filter media bags with sand and gravel to raise the back corner in addition to pieces of corrugated plastic to act as retaining...

    Unknown Worm In New Plants

Managed to get a video of it. They look more like red wrigglers. Detritus worms? VID_20180805_123652.mp4

    Unknown Worm In New Plants

I bought Monte Carlo off a seller on Facebook a few days ago but I hadn't gotten around to planting it yet because of the aquascaping I'm doing. While I was sleeping, my roommate noticed something moving inside the Ziploc bag and found two worms. This one and a smaller one. There may be more...

    Aquatop Hob Filter

I'm not using a background or heaters. It's not necessary for the shrimp tank that this is going to be. I think I'll go with the sponge filter idea and only have one airline tube going into the tank and just do a bit more maintenance on it. Thanks for your input!

    Aquatop Hob Filter

Because I want it to look almost invisible with the side effect of easily seeing when the sponge needs to be squeezed out. I don't want people to notice the filter. Exactly, it's only a 20 Long. Not worth the hassle of a canister. I've also been toying with the idea of burying a large enough...

    Aquatop Hob Filter

Unfortunately, neither of these suggestions are completely clear. They've all got the smoked gray lens look, which is not what I want. I found out that the AquaTop UV has an on/off switch so it can be run without the uv light. It's also rated for 40 gallons so it should be sufficient for a...

    Aquatop Hob Filter

I'm setting up a new 20 Long tank that's KINDA iwagumi-inspired and I've always liked the look of those clear filters I see all the time on nano tanks. Chewy has a HOB that's kinda similar to that look and I've heard AquaTop is a decent brand. Only thing is, this one that I'm looking at has a...

    New Shrimp Dying Off

It wasn't parasites. It was bacterial. The inside of the shrimp were turning a milky white color when they were infected and slowly dying off one by one. Upon death, they were almost completely milky white. I removed any dead or dying that I saw immediately because it can spread when other...

    New Shrimp Dying Off

I thought I would provide an update. I've successfully eradicated the infection with Furan-2. I had a few more deaths after I made the original post but I have not had any new deaths after the second day of treating with Furan-2. I even have shrimplets from both the Sapphire Blues and Sakura...

    New Shrimp Dying Off

Turns out my GH/KH kit is expired so my GH wasn't returning a result. I'm ordering a new kit since I couldn't find it anywhere in town. Here's the results of the rest of the water parameters.

    New Shrimp Dying Off

A friend of mine ordered some Sakura Orange neos but she wasn't ready for them yet so she asked me to hold them for her while her tank cycles. The seller is Aquatic Arts and they're having a moving sale so that's why she and I decided to buy some. I got Sapphire Blues and Sakura Yellows. The...

    Walstad Method For Planted Aquarium

Sand is preferred. Patience is required when doing a Walstad tank but it can work. You'll still have to do regular water changes though not as much. It's recommended you have livestock like shrimp or snails to help keep the water circulating. Here's a few of my past setups.

    Thrive Vs Flourish

I would think the Thrive tabs are better than the Flourish ones.

    Thrive Vs Flourish

Thank you, guys! I've bitten the bullet and decided to go with Thrive over my current Flourish. I think my plants will like it much better.
