    Lake Plants

Have any of you brought home plants from a lake or river and put them in your tank after cleaning them? I have seen someone online spraying plants that they ordered with a solution of peroxide (I think) and water, maybe to remove any hitch-hikers?

Where Do You Get Your Driftwood?

    A) How can you tell if it's a "hard wood"? B) If found in a lake already sunken, can it just be brought home, scrubbed, boiled and dropped in the tank?

Chinese Algae Eater 5 Gallon Tank - I Know.

Picked up 3 Amanos to add to the 4 Otos I have. This is new to me: "photoperiod and siesta are discussed" - I have live plants but have never heard of this. I know a CO2 system is like, $$$$$.

    Spider Web Algae??

Just a little update, I dropped the lights down to only being on for 4 hours per day and dropped in some Flourish Excel and that spider web algae (Staghorn) is pretty much toast. Also feeding the fish less is helping. Side effect was that it killed all my anubias(?) plants but I read that they...

    What fish to get next?

I have 6 Bloodfin Tetras that are about 1.5" long so far. They remind me a tiny trout. They school/shoal (whatever) but also zip around the tank really fast. I am waiting another week to grab a dwarf gourami and then I should be all set.

    Spider Web Algae??

I think what I have is called Staghorn. From: http://www.theplantedtank.co.uk/algae.htm Description Grows in strands that branches out. Looks a bit like deer antler. Black to grey/green in colour and sometimes has a red tint. Cause Low CO2 and/or poor water...

    Spider Web Algae??

I also have these Coralife Color Max bulbs - two of them. I left them off today thinking that maybe I am dumping too much light in the tank. The tank is located in an enclosed porch (which is heated) and has a good deal of light in the room during the day, but the tank is not right in front of...

    Spider Web Algae??

My 20g long planted tank has developed this blackish/greyish, spider-web-like (what I assume is) algae on my plants. I want to get rid of it but everything I search for does not match what this is. Also, I am having a great deal of trouble uploading a picture to this post so when I figure that...
