Betta's Fins Fraying & Weird Stuff Going On In Tank!

Hello! I'm a fishy mum to a sweet little male Betta named Ferguson. I've had him about a month now. He's in a 5 G Fluval Spec V tank. Temp is set at 78 F. Today, I noticed some fraying on his pretty fins. I'm also noticing A LOT of bio-film stuff in the tank. A lot. Also, a lot of brown...

High Nitrite Spike In Cycled Tank?

Thankfully, my parameters are back to reading perfect. That Nitrite spike lasted about 24 hours, and corrected itself. I'm at 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrite, 10 Nitrate, pH of 6.8. As far as the adding bacteria thing goes, I personally don't see the benefit to adding more bacteria to a cycled tank. As...

High Nitrite Spike In Cycled Tank?

Update: I re-tested my water today and got a perfect reading; Nitrate: 10-20 ppm Nitrite: 0 ppm Ammonia: 0 ppm pH - 6.8 So...I don't know what happened, but whatever it was started fast and ended fast. Really strange.

High Nitrite Spike In Cycled Tank?

Because I currently have one GBR, and I used to have 3. They require higher temperatures.

High Nitrite Spike In Cycled Tank?

The dead GBR died in the middle of the night. I checked on her about 4 AM, by the time I woke up around 9 she was dead and I immediately removed her. So a few hours, at most. I currently have; One juvenile Angelfish (roughly 1.5" body size, 3.75" tip to tip) 11 mixed size White Skirt Tetras 7...

High Nitrite Spike In Cycled Tank?

Hello! I have a 36 G tank that has been cycled for a few weeks now, and suddenly today I tested and saw a huge spike in Nitrites. Usually, Nitrite would be at zero, Ammonia would be at zero, and my Nitrates have been hanging between 10-20ppm. I test every 48-72 hours, and my last test 48 hours...

    Aquaclear 50 Making Squeaking Noises?!

I have absolutely no idea where or what that is...I really don't know much about the mechanics of filters, haha.

    Aquaclear 50 Making Squeaking Noises?!

Hello, everyone. I have an approximately 1.5 month old AC 50 running on my 36 G tank. Yesterday, I started noticing some weird noises happening. The only way I can describe it is a very very faint sound of a crackling fire. No fire. The sound was obviously coming from my filter. It would...

    Feeding Cories

I have 7 Sterbai corydoras, each approximately 0.5" long. I am feeding the other fish in my tank some sinking granules, that the Sterbais will clean up off of the bottom. They also get their weekly bloodworm treat (it's really cute to watch your Sterbais suck them up like spaghetti!) and 2-3x a...

Does Anyone Do Funerals Or Something Special For Their Dead Fish?

LOL DaleM yes I do! Well, I don't do full on funerals, no - but my Mum is a huge animal lover as I am, and growing up she always made caskets for my animals who'd passed. She's continued to do that even today, with my fish. She takes old Altoid's boxes and lines them with gauze, then we place...

    Fluval Spec V Filter?

Yeah, I can adjust the nozzle so it's facing upwards! I'll do that now and see if I notice any sort of difference. Good to know it's just the bio film. Where does that stuff come from? My betta? The water? Very weird stuff, haha.

Dropsy Treatment - Possible Underlying Disease

Well definitely keep an eye out for Tetra Lifeguard. If you ever come across it, pick it up. It's usual price here for 32 tablets is around $20 USD, but I usually get it price matched for about $12. Not sure if that means it'll be super expensive for you down under or not, but IMO it's an...

Dropsy Treatment - Possible Underlying Disease

Dropsy is hard to treat, and since it itself isn't a disease but just a symptom of a disease, it's hard to treat without knowing the cause. I'm not sure if you have it in Australia, but here we have a product that Tetra makes called Lifeguard. It's basically an all-in-one treatment. It treats...

    Fluval Spec V Filter?

LOL, thank you. I was researching types of filters and they all made perfect sense to me except the sump filter. Those diagrams are confusing and I don't quite understand how they work...but I guess I have one, and so THAT'S how they work! Haha! I have a very fine gravel, the kind that's...

    Fluval Spec V Filter?

LOL, to be honest, I still haven't quite figured out what a sump filter is. So, I'm not really sure if it is one or not but I can describe it to you; On the side of the tank, there's approximately a 3 inch wide area that contains filter sponge with cutouts for carbon and biological filtration...

    Sudden Ph Drop?

Hey there, I have a 36 G tank with the following; 1 juvenile Angelfish (approx. 1.5" body, 4-4.5" tip to tip" 11 mixed size White Skirt Tetra (1 close to full size, the others are all about 1") 7 Sterbai Corydoras (all of them are roughly 0.5") 2 German Blue Rams, male/female pair...

    Fluval Spec V Filter?

Hello Fishlore. I have my male betta, Ferguson, in the Fluval Spec V. I love the aesthetic of the tank and the lighting is awesome, but I'm disappointed with the filtration system. First, in order to access the button to adjust the output flow, you have to disassemble the pump and lift it out...

Is My Filter Strong Enough ?

Def watching this thread! I've been wondering the same...I have a Fluval Spec V and the built in filter doesn't seem to be circulating much water/trapping much debris so I'm also really curious.

Can Bettas Develop An Aggression Towards Tankmates?

Yeah, the tank was a bit overstocked for a Bettas liking. Bettas can suddenly start to show aggression if they are frustrated with their lack of space, which I'm assuming is the issue because you didn't mention any problems with your water parameters or anything else and your tank sounds like it...
