    Goldfish and peas

Both of my goldfish LOVE peas. Dahmer (the smart one) will catch them mid-float down the tank while the other fish (the dumb one... Chubs) has to find them on the gravel. So I have to distract Dahmer with one pea on one side of the tank and quickly drop in another pea for Chubs to find later...

Good news! 50% water changes every day has brought everything back down to normal. Fish seem no worse for the wear. Just thought I'd share.

    goldfish at top of tank

I'm not an expert but the black moor I have is at the top of my tank quite often. I don't think it is a gasping problem, but rather he is always looking for food. Because the other goldfish (calico fantail) I have is only at the top to feed. Different personalities.

    Water Readings and Possible Concerns

I'm well into the "inexperienced" category here BUT I do have a PUR filter on my faucet and it takes out a lot of that stuff.

What do you do with the water?

After reading and knowing that I"m going to have to do frequent water changes to keep my fish healthy, I am thinking about another concern. What do you do with the tank water that you siphon out? Do you just dump it down the drain? I ask because I live the in the southwest desert and I am very...

Okay, two hours after a 50% water change, readings are: PH: 7.2 Alk: 100 Hardness: 110 Nitrite: 5.0 (ouch! still toxic!) Nitrate: 20 Ammonia: 0 Before I changed, the Nitrite WAS 10.0! So I cut it by half. Remember, this is all done by the test strips... so accurancy may be slightly off. Do you...

    late introduction...

Hello all. I've already posted a panic-laden topic in the newbies area, but I thought I'd stop by and say hi. I began back in high school with a 15-gallon hexagonal tank. I kept a number of fish over the years but gave up after I moved a few times. A couple months ago I pulled the old tank out...

    Endless Newbie Cycling questions...

GREAT info! Thank you so much. I'm going to do a good water change (50%) tonight and will do so daily until I get my readings back to normal. The little guys don't seem to be affected yet so hopefully they're durable enough to withstand it while I get things straightened out.

    Endless Newbie Cycling questions...

Yes, exactly. But I am confused. If I am supposed to change the filter every 2-4 weeks but in doing so I destroy the bacteria... how can I change it without destroying the cycle?

    Endless Newbie Cycling questions...

Don't have the numbers handy (I am at work.) Since the tank is only 6 weeks old, I have changed the filter once... about two weeks ago. Other than that... I have done partial water changes routinely every week. I have tested with the test "strips" and I am now finding that they may be quite...

    Endless Newbie Cycling questions...

Hello all! What a great resource this is! I am in desparate need of your help. I recently got back into fish and set up my 15 gallon hexagonal tank about 6 weeks ago. I researched and let it cycle properly before I added fish. I now have two small goldfish, a calico and a black moor. I have...
