Question Is this common male African Cichlid (Peacock) behavior?

I did watch that video last night and was able learn from it. I have a feeling that it may be a female. It's very difficult to catch the dang thing. they are fast. I think I will try to catch it on my next water change. So when I looked at it while it was still in the water, I did notice one...

Question Is this common male African Cichlid (Peacock) behavior?

OK, the store I bought them wants me to send them a picture of the vent of all the fish doing this. So far it was that dragonblood ob and the one in the pic and a platinum ob peacock. I'm going to catch them tomorrow and take a picture for them to see. I didn't want to do it today as I didn't...

Question Is this common male African Cichlid (Peacock) behavior?

They are still young and some haven't developed color yet. But they were doing the circling thing slowly and wiggling at the bottom. It was strange cuz one of them would chase the other fish away if they got close.

    Stocking question African cichlids

So one thing I learned is to divide the tank size in half. So, 37.5 for 75 gallons. And for anything bigger than 7 inches count that as 2 fish. So in my 75, I have 20 fish. I bought them at 2.5 to 3 inches all males. the heavier the stock the less aggression, and also, get them as babies so they...

Question Is this common male African Cichlid (Peacock) behavior?

I am in the process of stocking my 75 gallon african cichlid tank and got 7 more today. After a bit of settling in, I caught my dragonblood peacock doing this with 2 different fish. I ordered male fish so I'm baffled as to why they are doing this. Anyway, they are doing the breeding routine...

Help White cloudy substance coming from filter?

That is weird. Do a water change and just rinse the media, all of it, in the tank water and see if that fixes it. Your water doesn't seem to be having any bacterial blooms. Give that a whirl and see what happens.

    Sick gourami?

I had 3 of them and 2 of them would do that. My guess is that the pH is probably too high and causing stress. Mine died eventually due to high ammonia when the tank was going through the cycle.

Just bought the API Master Test kit and.....

In my experience in my daughters 29 gallon tank was a lot of fish death because I didn't know about the nitrogen cycle. But, after some research, I finally realized what I was doing wrong. So, I tried several bottles such as that API quick start and Fluval cycle and nothing seemed to work. my...

Question 75 gallon African Cichlid Tank Stocking Amount

Awesome thank you for the reply. I do know that it can be overstocked but at the same time I didn't want to overcrowd the tank with too many.

Question 75 gallon African Cichlid Tank Stocking Amount

Hello fellow African Cichlid Fish keepers. I had a question on how many fish you have a 75 gallon tank; or how many could you have in a tank that size. The tank is currently being filtered by a Fluval FX6 Canister Filter. I will have 14 total cichlids (Peacock/Hap) mix. Just trying to determine...

    Help Greenish Cloudy Water

Hey, just wanted to say that my daughters tank is now crystal clear. Took about a week with the UV sterilizer but, her tank is now crystal clear. Still have those dang Diatoms but it doesn't bother me as much as my daughter. She calls it allergy, for some reason she struggles with saying algae lol

    BBA in substrate

I was told to use Seachem Excel and dose it properly to kill BBA. I read an article on using Hydrogen Peroxide with a syringe to attack the BBA. I have yet to buy some excel as I am working. But I plan on buying some over my week. I believe it was coralbandit who told me about this.

    Water level help

You can get away with a 40 gallon tank as long as you have a filter that can filter the water more than 5 times an hour. And I agree with @aussieant32 ... just keep him in there by himself. Oscars are very dirty fish, meaning they eat messy and excrete more waste. So..over filtrate and you'll be...

    Water level help

I think that 40 may be too small for the oscar. Yes it can, it's just the nitrobacter and nitrosomonas bacteria that eat ammonia and nitrites. You can never overdose bacteria in a tank either.
