Cj's 85 Gallon Upgrade And Tank Build

So I’m like 2 months behind now ... I’ve been so busy! I’m still alive! Anyone that wants to connect outside of here is welcome to look me up on FB. Search “ljc” and you should find me. I’ve been trying to get some business stuff going ... I’ve got preschool to pay for! lol

Cj's 85 Gallon Upgrade And Tank Build

Oh I totally killed that poor acro. I’ve also been so dang busy that I have neglected my regular tank maintenance and I’m seeing my corals suffering. I, hopefully, will be doing a water test (and probably cringing) and doing a very large water change after pulling off as much algae as possible...

It's Been A Long Time Coming....

Eh ... I’ve had a peppermint for going on a year now and have only ever had 4 aiptasias. He eats other stuff just fine. I don’t think their main diet is aiptasia. But yes, that’s a peppermint shrimp.

Culprit's Journey Into The Dark Side

Hmm ... I’ve been shipped propagules from FL a couple times. Actually the first time it was pretty good sized plants on top with a few leaves each but they shipped unprotected in April and they arrived frozen solid. I wonder if they had grown them from seeds or if they collected them.

Culprit's Journey Into The Dark Side

That might be the one I have. Not sure on numbers. But it’s got optical and float switches as well as it only fills for so many seconds I think. Sometimes when I get around to refilling the reservoir and turning it back on it will fill for a while, pause (I assume level checking) and start...

Culprit's Journey Into The Dark Side

Oh gotcha! Well I haven’t been using it because of the dang alarm! Maybe I’ll do what you did and start using it again. It just got to be too annoying to come home to it alarming all the time.

Also, you can upgrade your system and use the waste water and run through a second membrane and you’ll get about opposite clean to waste ratio! Keeping pressure around 80-85 I believe is supposed to be better for waste. I use a pump.

Culprit's Journey Into The Dark Side

Never heard those things! I leave mine fully hooked up and wet. I never drain anything. I thought you were supposed to keep the membrane wet at all times once opened ... check with BRS. I trust them.

I have no context because I’m like waaaaayyy behind ... but I have one. You can calibrate them with some of those ph pouches. I calibrated mine when I calibrated my probe. It was only off like a tenth but I’d never calibrated it before either. It was cheap too. Like $2 or something.

Culprit's Journey Into The Dark Side

Yes, for clean up I’d get a turbo and a banded trochus and even an astraea. I’d go with the scarlet hermit, but that’s me. If you do blue leg make sure it’s not a hairy blue leg or it will munch on your corals. And with the hermits make sure you have plenty of extra, different sized shells for...

Culprit's Journey Into The Dark Side

I don’t know anything about the goby shrimp pair as I don’t have them but I always see them recommended ... I’m eh about them, personally. I do know dottybacks can be aggressive ... seems like the orchid is the least aggressive one.

Culprit's Journey Into The Dark Side

I know I’m behind here but I’m not in love with my smart ATO. I actually don’t even use it right now because it was always alarming and turning off for no reason. I’d come home and it would be sounding the constant alarm ... I kept the water level under the Tim so there was plenty of room for...

Culprit's Journey Into The Dark Side

While more expensive, they do make the ones that magnet to the glass and are just a round disc. I think it’s smart ATO. There are also the visual sensors like these that go in the tank. Pretty sure BRS has them. Can’t remember what they call them. So on my brute I have a big plastic float...

The sixline was most likely a Juvie as I only ever see tiny ones in the store. Mine is huge! They definitely need swimming space and constantly hunt for pods. Heres Wrassey. He’s a little blurry but it gives a good size reference.

    G’s 2.5g Pico Reef Build.

I’m betting the cost won’t be nothing when it’s all said and done! Lol nothing in this hobby ends up being cheap ... except you do have a nice supply of cheap frags over there! I wouldn’t put a bunch of mollies in a 20 gallon ... they are big waste producers. I have one of these in my 2.5...

Cj's 85 Gallon Upgrade And Tank Build

Y’all! So I’m a complete idiot and hopefully I didn’t kill my new acro frag over the weekend! We had our club meeting Saturday and got a pretty large frag of an acro. When I got home we had stuff to do and so I just threw the cup in the cube until I could get to it later that evening. Well ...

    Souls Adventure!

If you notice it happening more you might just buy a pump. That should get the psi up to a reasonable level.
