Cycle Done (?) - Stocking Tomorrow

If you are cycled then you don't need stability. Feed your bacteria (ammonia) but before you put fish in do a water change to bring your nitrates down. 20 - 40 ppm if you are running live plants and if not then as low as you like. Don't forget to add Prime or some other dechlorinator to your...

    Wisteria Stagnant

Just keep testing and try to keep your nitrates between... oh what do you say @Jocelyn Adelman 20 ppm and 40 ppm? If it gets higher then just drop in a water change to stay within range. Very glad you are seeing some improvement.

Cycle Done (?) - Stocking Tomorrow

Looks like you are cycled. 40 nitrates isn't terrible but if you are in the position to do a big change there's no reason not to as long as you condition your water. I don't have any comment on the water clarity thing but make sure you do all your cleaning before you change water. You might also...

Complete Beginner! Lots Of Questions... (sorry)

@tommywantfishy definitely knows his stuff. Albino Corys need a minimum of 3 in a group with 6 being the ideal. Check out their animal-world data sheet: Albino Cory

    Beginner Needs Help

Well it's the filter's biological media that cycles (grows beneficial bacteria). If you are cycling with the fish in the tank then it's going to go slower than if you use pure ammonia. You can speed either method up by using a "bacteria in a bottle" product like Seachem Stability which is what I...

    Beginner Needs Help

I doubt it but if you are going to use that tank you don't want those fish back you want smaller ones more suited to that tank size.

    Beginner Needs Help

A five gallon tank is no place for either one of those fish. Tiger Barbs need 6 or 7 in a school minimum and can grow to be 3 inches long. The same for Australian Rainbows who can grow to be 4 inches long.. So at a minimum you'd need a tank and filter big enough for 42 inches of fish. Even a 30...

    Desert Life

I'm quite lucky to park in a garage under my work building. I walked six blocks at lunch it it was brutal even then. Oh yea and my girl @Discusluv is in Elk Grove. She's almost a homie.

    Desert Life

Mine does that because we have some external water pipes in my apartment complex. Water heats up in the pipes so you have to do the opposite of the rest of America.... run the cold water until it gets cold. Takes a while though... I'm on the second floor.

    Are you using any ferts?

    What Should I Do?

Maybe an ? I would lay off any fertilizer that has nitrogen so maybe the plants will eat more of the nitrates and there won't be so much in the first place. I'd water change myself down to about 5 ppm of nitrates just to get a jump on things. I would feed sparingly so the food and fish waste...

    Cycled Already? How?

You said you had nitrates in your tap water right? Assuming you had no nitrates in your tap water it you could be at 0, 0, 0 which would indicate no cycle and no ammonia source. I just skimmed so if I missed something my bad. Off work soon.

It's about 104 in Sacramento right now with 107 and 108 scheduled for the next two days. Not to mention a spent a year in Saudi and Iraq for Desert Storm. What really caught me by surprise was how cold it was at night. Anyway I'm off to kiss the ground that Willis Carrier walked on. Stay cool...

They have some tape too and I might go with that for fast repairs while the water is actually pouring out. Slap it right on, press down, no more leaking.

Share Your 30gallon And Under Builds!

Tommy you need a freaking handicap or something for the competition. Your tanks are too nice. Maybe you should have to scape while blindfolded.

    Aquarium "life Hacks"

Agreed my Flex Seal isn't for looks it's to keep water in the tank and the fish alive in case of an accident.

It's basically liquid rubber. Site says it's non-hazardous, non-toxic, safe for plants and animals but doesn't specifically mention fish. https://www.flexsealproducts.com/product/liquid-gallon/

Please Help Me Plant My Tank

well @ashenwelt knows his stuff that's for sure. I don't know if you are going for low, medium or high light but a PAR of 30 mcmol at depth (how deep your tank is minus substrate) is right at the line between low and medium. Medium is about 30 to 50. High is 50+ You should be able to find the...
