Hello! This is your guide on how to feed your flowerhorn a proper diet.
Most flowerhorns eat like complete pigs so the rule of “feed what they can eat in 3-5 minutes” does not apply here because it would be overfeeding to do this. You want a food with protein and good ingredients (real things not just meal). I recommend the food ocean free ever red that can be found on amazon.
This food is a color enhancer using krill not chemicals and is also protein rich along with the vitamins flowerhorns need but I also like hikari cichlid pellets as well. That brings me to the next food which is vegetables. Flowerhorns are omnivores so some vegetables are good for them because of the vitamins. I recommend zucchini, cucumber, peas and squash.
Flowerhorns also enjoy live foods but it needs to be minimal because they are prone to intestinal problems. When feeding live food I only recommend shrimp because it’s small enough for a treat without causing problems that feeding little fish can cause.
Here is a schedule and amounts to feed to ensure that you are not over feeding.
5 out of the 7 days of the week (your choice) this is recommended. 10-13 high quality pellets and some diced up vegetables.
And now the two days left are treat days that you can feed the pellets and then instead of vegetables a live shrimp or mealworms.
Thanks for reading and have a great day!
