    Colorful xenias

I too love easy colorful corals! I believe firework polyps are fairly low maintenance (star polyps also are easy and come in a nice neon green), zoa's are easy and come in a variety of crazy colors, hammer corals and torch colors are also super colorful and have a lot of movement, there's a lot...

    5 Gallon Pico tank?

No, my nitrites are undetectable. I do need to get my nitrates down to make the tank safe for corals though and water changes have not seemed to have any effect in lowering them. I added macroalgaes to help reduce them but they are still new to the tank so I haven't seen any changes yet.

    5 Gallon Pico tank?

Currently my test kit can't detect any ammonia but my nitrates just won't go down for some reason the past three days. There was a day a week ago where I had .1 ammonia but that was after I threw in a whole block of frozen mysis shrimp. I'm not sure where in the cycle I am to be honest, its been...

    5 Gallon Pico tank?

Time for another Update I guess. So, for the negatives, an algae bloom has begun and an aiptasia anemone has decided to rear its ugly head. For now I am decreasing the period the lights are on to combat the algae- its very thread like brown/green stuff in clumps on the glass. As for the aiptasia...

    Colorful xenias

As far as I know and have seen those colors you mentioned are the only colors that occur in Xenia. Are you thinking of firework polyps? Those have a similar appearance to Xenia but they are much more colorful, you can also find them on pretty much any online coral shop.

55 Gallon Tank How to get rid of Aphids

Submerge the floating plants underwater for a few hours, it will hopefully drown them and skim off the top of the water any floaters. Do this multiples times a day for a week if possible.

    5 Gallon Pico tank?

UPDATE!!! So update time! I was away from the internet while I finalized my grad applications which was mad stressful; but in the midst of all that I set up the tank and it has been cycling for over a week now! I have decided on pursuing a mixed reef with some ornamental macroalgae and corals...

    Freshwater Dip for Macros?

I am setting up a macro display tank and I'm concerned about pests like flat worms and hydroids and such. Would a freshwater dip on Macroalgae be effective in removing any pests they may harbor? Would a freshwater dip harm the macros? If not how long could I leave them in? Is there some additive...

Dwarf Crayfish not doing so well

Another thought I had was if you've added anything new to the tank that might contain copper. Low levels of copper exposure would have a similar affect on your crayfish.

    Floating plants' root length

In my experience and opinion its more light intensity and water flow that affects root length. I have several low light tanks (one with a power head and one with a sponge filter) the floating plants in both of them have never grown long roots of any kind, the tank with higher flow has noticeably...

Dwarf Crayfish not doing so well

It may be that it is growing old, one of my dwarves was like that before he passed. I made sure to hand feed him when he didn't want to leave his little area so he could get food still. Just make sure he's fed and keep the water clean. Thats about all you can do if he is aging. Do you know how...
