I killed a lot of fish growing up. Biodad seemed content to let me believe that fish "naturally" die after a couple of months, so that he wouldn't have to deal with me having them in the house long term.

I still like fish. I don't want to be the terrible fish parent I used to be. So I am going to research myself to death before actually getting another one. There is... a lot to learn. 0.0

Plants are all having completely different issues. Trying to diagnose and fix them just made other issues pop up, so I'm just leaving it alone for the time being and hoping they'll balance out eventually. All I'm adding at this point is Excel (~60% recommended dose, daily). Algae is pretty much gone at this point, though I'd like to have kept some on the back wall, at least...

Snails are not looking good, especially the ramshorns. They're not dead, but they all have defects and damage to their shells despite a lack of tank aggression. Shrimp are breeding constantly, but the vast majority of the babies are not surviving; not sure if this is a health issue or if the parents are eating them all.

Water tests consistently come out fine. Nitrite never goes above zero, and ammonia occasionally builds up to about 0.25 before dropping back down again. Nitrate test is hard to read, but I think it's hovering around 30ppm; I do at least one ~7% water change each day, and ~21% twice a week.
