Came in right before the lights turned off for the day. Found him like this.
I think it confirms my theory of him acclimating to light, because I’ve heard stories of them moving into the dark and out of it as they are introduced into the aquarium.
Its a 10 gallon. I’ve got a “sump” if you can call it that. A 5 gallon below the desk with a few baffles of filter media and an extra heater. A marine land something or other power head is in the tank, covered with plastic mesh of course.
I keep my nitrates and phosphates pretty low. Near...
I got this green bubble tip anemone yesterday after thinking about it for awhile. My clownfish hosted a patch of GSP I had to remove and he seemed sad.
Does it seem alright? Never kept an anemone before. Seems to get bigger and smaller but not deflating or inflating. Just opening and...
Ok. I’ll cup em.
I started an infusoria culture from a little bit of sponge sludge and tank water. Maybe that’ll come in handy if they live off the tank for a little bit.
Do the fry come in waves, or do they lay just once?
Hmm, well I have a water change coming up on the shrimp tank. And there’s very little nitrate in the main tank. Maybe I transfer that water into the shrimp tank rather than new water? I’m not sure. The tanks get the same water in, and I don’t buffer the tank. Everyone seems to be happy on my...
Oh jeepers they’re that small?
Yeah I guess even if I did have a tank with a filter ready, I wouldn’t have the food.
Good prep for next time at least.
I have a shrimp tank with lots of microfaunal growth, but it’s unheated. Is it worth a shot of putting them in there?
One of my male honey Gourami’s has made a bubble nest, and is sporting quite vibrant coloration.
I wasn’t expecting them to want to breed, so I’m not quite prepared, but I’d feel bad leaving them to die.
I have brine shrimp eggs, if the babies will eat that. If not, the tank is covered...
Thanks for the pump suggestion, but I’d much rather have consistent directions of flow through the whole tank. That wasn’t the difficult part. I’ll draw up some better schematics.
Sorry to cut your idea off so soon, but it’s just not want I want for the tank. I wanted all levels to be the same...
I do have drawings but they’re not very comprehensible. I want to have around 10 maybe 15 times turnover. I’d also like to control it or set it to randomize throughout the day like marine tanks do. Although all in the same direction.
Hmm, that’s something you couldn’t guess for.
Alright I have another idea.
Same tank, tank same scape, keeping the shrimp, keeping the Garras.
It's a nice, cool, simplistic, brown and grey.
And then BOOM! A school of rainbow shiners.
Very pricey school, but they're so new. I would definitely wait until they're not $40-50 a pop and then...
How many hillstreams, cause Garras won't single out any after a group of 3. And even so, it's more of a "get off my rock" than an "I'm going to eat you" kind of fight. I think a garra would be a great centerpiece.
I'd say after that maybe a bristlenose? Or if you think you've got the space, 3...
I'm not sure what this post is, I guess just a journal. Better than shouting into the void.
I am close to actually owning a house, so I am getting pretty excited about what I can keep.
I'm moving far, but my brother wants my current tanks.
Still, this is a few years out. No reason to...
