"Inch per gallon rule" think good filtration is key?

The rule is useless. We can all agree it’s flawed (10” fish, 10 gal tank), and even if it’s ok as a loose guide there are better ways for beginners to determine how to stock their tank... the internet! We’re all already the using the best tool we’ve got, here we can speak to experienced keepers...

Non aquatic crabs in a fully aquatic tank.

Most crabs will need some salt or eat community fish. I believe ThaI micro crabs which are incredibly small and not readily available (at least where I am) are entirely freshwater, though. If you can find some they might be interesting.

    Critters from Madagascar?

CrayfishAreAwesome Alright, I kinda figured that would be the response. Thought maybe I could get away with it since I have plenty of horizontal space, as long as I keep my temperatures + parameters stable. A paludarium with 30-40 gals of water would be something! Maybe for a future tank...

    Critters from Madagascar?

Hello So I have a paludarium that I would like Madagascar themed. I’ve already stocked it with a few treefrogs (Boophis albilabris). My aquatic part already has some ruby tetras and a KhulI loach that were left over and needed a tank after I tore down my snail-infested community, so I couldn’t...

    Help...what Is This??

That’s so neat! And it just appeared overnight?! It’s probably harmless so I wouldn’t worry. There’s so much that live in our tanks, most of it harmless. I also think it’s probably a worm of some sort.

    Swim Bladder Disorder

Can you test nitrite and nitrate? What kind of test kit do you use? Temperature? This is kind of all I can give you. I really don’t know what to do.

    Swim Bladder Disorder

kellylovesfish Can you give us a full description of your care? There’s a rubric in the fish diseases section. Maybe someone who knows more about this species will see something.

    Silver Patch On Betta Face

If he’s a koI betta his colours can change rapidly. If it’s just the colour and it doesn’t look like something’s growing on his scales than maybe that’s it. Maybe do a water change? There shouldn’t be any ammonia. I’m not very experienced, so this is just my two cents. Hopefully someone more...

    Swim Bladder Disorder

It depends on the cause of the issue, did you thoroughly review your care? If your husbandry is off definitely fix that. I’m not an expert so I’m not going to recommend any treatments until someone experienced chimes in. But I think if you reduced the flow from the filter it would make it easier...

    Betta Clamping Fin, Pale Spot

He’s back to normal now! I’ll wait until tomorrow to put the carbon back in the filter but I think we’re all good now.

    Betta Clamping Fin, Pale Spot

Momgoose56 This morning the white spot was gone! He still seems to be a little stressed though, just hiding. I got some pictures for the potential Popeye though. Thanks again for your help!

    Betta Clamping Fin, Pale Spot

Momgoose56 Alright, I’ll try putting him in a glass in the morning. I did a 40% water change and added some more Jungle fungus elimination since it seemed to help before. He seems to be better after that, but that white spot is still there. I’ll get some clear pictures of it, he just freaks when...

    Betta Clamping Fin, Pale Spot

Yes, my tank has been cycled for a couple weeks. And I’m using the API master test kit, sorry for saying the wrong one. I will get another test kit. Popeye? Really? I thought his eyes looked a little puffed out but after comparing him to pics of healthy bettas I decided it was nothing. I’ll...
