Minimizing Impact Of Substrate Change On Plants

HI all! I’m working up the energy/motivation to change out my substrate from gravel to sand (both inert) so I can get kuhliI loaches. One thing I’m a bit worried about is how this will affect my plants. Are there any ways I can minimize impact on them? Or maybe I’m even overthinking it (maybe...

    Paigee's 29g New Adventure

I’ve added more plants and all fish are out of QT, bringing the total to 8 neon tetras, 4 platies (2 female, 1 male, 1 baby), and 1 albino BN pleco. I’m also slowly winning a battle against a small amount of BBA. I started dosing 3ml of Excel daily and it is slowly eradicating the algae I...

How To Help This Fish Live

Thanks! I’m happy to report that the fish is doing well, it’s tail fins are regrowing and it hasn’t taken another journey into the filter, haha.

How To Help This Fish Live

I do have filter covers on order, just waiting for them to arrive! I didn’t see this until now, but I did leave it in the net for almost 24hours, until it seemed to be swimming more in the net. Since I released it I’ve kept a close eye and although it is missing most of its tail, it is eating...

How To Help This Fish Live

HI all, as the subject line says, looking for suggestions on how to help my neon live. I’m having bad luck as a neon from my main tank just passed away with some kind of mouth lesion. The current neon in question is in my QT tank, had the batch of 5 for a week. I only counted 4 when feeding...

    Paigee's 29g New Adventure

Haven’t updated this thread in a bit (mostly cuz I’m having a long conversation with myself haha)! I think overall things are going well. I quarantined my platies for a little over two weeks and have added them into the main tank on Feb 2. They are all doing well, I’ve spied one little tiny baby...

Sick Fish Versus Fish In Quarantine

Thanks for your input, after doing some further reading I have gone ahead and euthanized the infected fish. Do you think there is any value in treating the tank with Melafix as a preventative measure, or if the other fish were going to get infected they would have done so by now?

Sick Fish Versus Fish In Quarantine

Here is a little clip of the fish in question, I tried to focus the best I could. I'm not certain of the diagnosis, as the more I read about columnaris, it kills and spreads quite quickly. This fish has had this lesion on its mouth for just shy of a week I think. Now that I've pulled up...

Sick Fish Versus Fish In Quarantine

HI all, I’m hoping for some advice. I have noticed one of my neon tetras in my 29 gallon main tank has mouth rot/cotton mouth/columnaris. I first noticed a little less than a week ago that it had something wrong with its upper lip, and after noting it get worse I did some research and found it...

    Paigee's 29g New Adventure

I put the piece of driftwood I bought in my tank! I like it. I’m still feeling like the hardscape needs some height, and it is also too centred for my taste. I’m gonna sit with it the way it is for a while and mull over how I can improve it. I’d also like to get some more plants to fill in a...

29 Gallon Tank Looking For Ideas

Okay so I tried putting my stock (both current and planned) onand I got the result that I would be 95% stocked. Does that seem right? I guess it is because the pleco and the platies are such big waste producers? I was hoping to add in one more platy and possibly a small gouramI in addition to...

How Soon After Wc To Test Nitrate?

I feel like I’m vacuuming fairly thoroughly. I use a chop stick poking off the end of the hose to agitate the gravel. There are a few areas I can’t agitate because the plants are not firmly rooted yet. I’ll try focusing on stirring up those areas next.
