  1. Opinions on hexagon tanks?

I hear angelfish prefer vertical tanks, but I'm not sure if there are varieties that could live happily in a 20 gallon...
  2. Serious water hardness promblem

While I've never heard of water hardness causing rapid death, I suppose it is possible. If that does turn out to be the problem, mix distilled water in with your tap water during your water changes and as top-off water if necessary.
  3. I have no idea whats going on with my new tank?

The cloudiness was probably bacteria bloom, which is good! I definitely second the recommendation for a liquid test kit. You noticed yourself the strips are vague so a better test kit is in order. I wouldn't do any water changes but keep a VERY close eye on that ammonia level. If it goes above...
  4. Lionfish for 25 gallon

Unfortunately, I don't think there are any lionfish that can fit in a tank that small! The Zebra is already the dwarf of lionfishes and needs a 50 gallon minimum. They are super cool, but there are lots of cool saltwater aquarium inhabitants so keep looking around.
  5. Clownfish, Firefish, Clown Gobys, emerald crab

The saltwater forums here are pretty slow. Fishlore is probably one of the nicest hobby websites out there, but for saltwater info there are much busier forums. I'm by no means an expert, but it should work. A pair of clownfish is perfect in a 30 gallon.Firefish basically occupy one spot most of the...
  6. Where can I buy...?

I bought my plants from a seller on the forum here You only need a few more posts to access that part of the forum.
  7. 3 gallon tank

I have a 3 gallon cube as a natural planted setup. Dirt and gravel, planted with vals, dwarf sag, a bronze crypt, plus hornwort tied around some rocks, little cholla wood with moss and frogbit floating. It's completely stuffed with plants honestly. Only tech inside is a heater - plants grow by...
  8. My first community tank - not sure how to feed everyone

Skip the betta and worry less about snail jello. Mystery snails and ghost shrimp will do just fine with some crumpled flakes your other fish missed.
  9. Is my Betta going to be okay?

I would stop dosing ammonia and wait for it to get to 0, then immediately put the betta in the larger tank. Like, don't try to strengthen the cycle or anything. Had you not already dosed ammonia, I would have suggested he go immediately into the 10 gallon with the bacteria additive, but I imagine...
  10. I.Am.The.Stupidest.Person.Ever!

I would have made my husband clean out those filter cartridges if I were you! I know the shock of that must be awful, but you meant such good things for those fish. If you weren't upset, I'd say fishkeeping is not for you. Since you are, dust yourself off and try again.
  11. Questions about f

I'll just answer what I can even if others have done so. 2. Yes a cycled tank can have 0 nitrates, more often under-stocked planted tanks. I have a 3 gallon natural planted betta tank, no filter, which always has 0/0/0 parameters. If you're using an API test kit make sure to really beat that second...
  12. Summer Time Prep

Air stones come in different sizes. There are ones the size of quarters which would be great for agitation in a 10 gallon. I would think ice cubes would cause fluctuations, or hot and cold pockets. If you don't have fish that jump, I would leave the tank topless, blow a fan across the top, and...
  13. Best way to catch a fish?

Since that's such a big tank, I would also recommend trying to block them off in a part of the tank. Drain water as much as you can, then stick a divider in - anything clean and nonporous should do. Some people also use bait, like a piece of shrimp or something in the net and just leave it still...
  14. Brown Spots in my tank! How do I get rid of them?

I would buy a cheap timer and have the light go on for 8-10 hours a day when it'll be viewed the most. You can try leaving the light off for a couple of days to see if that helps. It will probably go away if you do nothing, but it's ugly, so less light and more water changes should make it go...
  15. Can I add any more fish to my tank?

Hi Andrew! Welcome to Fishlore. Your community sounds great the way it is! I agree that adding more may cause you to be overstocked, but stocking limits can be pushed. It seems like adding another species - especially enough to breed - is too much. Personally, I would create a larger school of...
