Changing Rcs Tank With A Million Babies

I’m not sure I’ll keep the tank after, but it was a gift from a friend and I feel like it should be used for something—I’m just not sure what. It’s an aqueon minI bow so it has its good and bad. And yes, I was thinking of a 5 gallon. I already counted 20 babies (that I could see) so...uh...we’re...

Changing Rcs Tank With A Million Babies

My shrimpies are exploding with babies and I’m pretty sure my little 2.5 gallon isn’t going to be enough for all the new life coming at me. How do I change to a new tank when most of the shrimp I’m dealing with are nearly microscopic? Or rescape an existing one, for that matter?

How To Tell If A Dark Neo Is Berried?

This is my big black/chocolate shrimpie, Keith Emerson. Yes, I know she’s a girl. Don’t binary pigeon-hole her. Anyhow, I got her along with two other shrimp—a yellow Sakura named Carl Palmer and a Red RilI named Greg Lake (pictured above Keith). Greg and Carl are both quite berried now because...

How Attached Are They To Us?

Ha! Warren IS an excitable boy. ...he flares a lot. Harry definitely looks like he’s had the life of a repo man. I swear he sneaks cigarettes while I’m gone. Tom Petty ..uh... he does not live like a refugee. He doesn’t think that the waiting is the hardest part. He’s actually very un-Tom...

How Attached Are They To Us?

Amazing!! I remember snorkeling in Hawaii. Every time I passed over a fish, it’d look up at me—kinda like it was studying me. you give it a lot of alcohol and ask it to take its shirt off

    Tiny Pond Stocking?

HI everybody! So, I recently made a little garden pond out of an old sink I found in my back yard (cleaned it thoroughly, plugged it up, sealed with fish friendly silicone, added a pump and filter, all that). It’s a small thing, 17 gallons. A foot deep, 1.5’ long and 1.5’ wide. It has a dwarf...

How Attached Are They To Us?

What if...WE’RE the ones in the aquarium? Well. Terrarium. Whatever.

How Attached Are They To Us?

I’d LOVE to see studies on all of this! I could swear that they know their names. I have two in a divided tank, Tom Petty and Warren Zevon. When I call Tom, he zips to the front of the tank. Then I call Warren, and he zips to the front. And then I call my newest betta, Harry Dean Stanton in a...

How Attached Are They To Us?

I’ve been thinking tonight (and maybe drinking)— do bettas (and all fish in general) associate us with more than food? Reason for this line of thought being I’ve done everything food related around them with my hands, so they would associate my fingers with food. But when I put my fingers up to...

    Meet Harry Dean Stanton!

I’ve been wanting to get bug bites for a while, maybe I’ll finally cave and do it! He seemed to be able to see his food a little better after a dose of erythromycin. But I don’t think his old betta teeth work well because he had a piece of food stuck in his mouth after he lunged for it. So I...

New Betta Owner... What Can I Keep?

I have a 2.5 gallon and a 2 gallon aside from my divided ten. I keep cherry shrimp in one of the little tanks and a sweet old betta who was in a cup for so long that he’s just glad to have the extra room in the other. Save your tank for emergencies, try cute little cherry shrimp, even hang on to...

    Meet Harry Dean Stanton!

Update time! Harry is a sweet old man and loves to come up and greet me every time I come over to his tank. He does appear to have Popeye, his eyes are just so buggy. That doesn’t seem to affect how happy he is, though. I’m waiting for erythromycin to come in the mail and am starting treatment...

    Meet Harry Dean Stanton!

He isn’t related to my other ones either. The others can pinpoint a single pellet in a forest of water wisteria

    Meet Harry Dean Stanton!

He’s perked up a lot, and I got him a piece of mopanI wood that has a cool cave hollow in it, so he’s got some niiiice tannins to help him out. He doesn’t seem to be able to detect food very well, though.
