What's the next fish you're getting?

Possibly some Pseudomugil gertrudae, just to increase the genetic diversity in my breeding group. Long-term I'll also probably get a male super red BN, since I'm fairly sure the two I have are female. If anyone has a male up for grabs, feel free to give me a shout! :)

Dog with lymphoma - I’m an emotional wreck

Well, we ended up adopting another dog way ahead of schedule. Meet Lexi - she's about 80 lbs, estimated to be about a year old, and the shelter vet guessed that she's a pit/cane corso mix. Since she's only a year, we fully expect that she's still got a bit of growing to do. :) Here's her...

    Bolivian Ram spawn log

The eggs have looked fertilized every time, so I'm chalking it up to inexperienced parents - hopefully should change in time. The pair of Bolivians are the only ones in the tank, other than a pond snail or two. I've kept it to be a breeding tank for now, in the hopes of being able to raise...

    Gudgie's 20 gallon long build

Update on the rainbow fry: Unfortunately we were out of town for ~4 days in late Sept, and lost some of the fry while we were gone. Currently have 4 from the older batch, at least 2 of which I think I can move to the 20 gal any day now. I also have another 4 or so fry that are only a couple days...

    Bolivian Ram spawn log

Well, the pair in my 10 gal tank have now spawned for the third time. They spawned for the second time a couple weeks ago, but immediately ate that set. It's a small batch this time, but I'm hoping third time's the charm! Time will tell... :)

    Gudgie's 20 gallon long build

Just a quick update - I have 7-9 fry that I'm currently raising in a half-filled 5 gallon, plus another 8-12 eggs waiting to hatch. No pics yet because it's too hard to get my camera to focus on the fry, but the oldest two are around 1 cm or so in length. :)

    Bolivian Ram spawn log

I've had two additional pairs form since I last posted. The first pair is the two I mentioned from QT last time. The other pair is in my 75 gallon community, and i believe were the other two rams from QT. Both pairs have laid eggs once. The ones in QT nearly made it to wiggling before they were...

    75 gallon aquarium journal

Eeek. I’ll preface this post by saying that the crisis was averted, but we nearly gassed our 75 gallon tank! :arghh: So our CO2 regulator has been a bit finicky, and we’ve needed to toy with the flow rate. The manifold that connects to our 20 gal is always reliable, not been a problem. But the...

Dog with lymphoma - I’m an emotional wreck

Thanks, everyone. Day by day, it’s getting a little bit better, a bit easier. Wrigley was definitely acting off the first few days, but thankfully is mostly back to normal. In what I suppose you could call a silver lining, we’ve decided to sign up to foster for one of our local animal shelters...

Dog with lymphoma - I’m an emotional wreck

I’m devastated to share that we said goodbye to our beloved Foxy earlier tonight. Her remission was sadly short lived, as the lymphoma re-emerged in early June. We were able to manage symptoms and keep a high quality of life for a couple months with prednisone, but she really took a turn for...

    Bolivian Ram spawn log

Thanks, that’s good to hear! Hopefully the next round or so will be an improvement! If they get better at protecting the nest in the community tank, I’ll certainly try that! —- I officially lost the rest of that spawn. I had two survivors as of yesterday, sadly done to zero today. Never quite...

    Bolivian Ram spawn log

Looks like about half the wigglers may have died overnight. :( I checked the thermometer and the temp appeared to drop to 76F or so overnight - could that have been enough of a swing to kill the wigglers? Otherwise, any idea what could be causing it? I did also start doing a series of water...

    Bolivian Ram spawn log

I have movement! I’ll admit, I don’t know quite what I was expecting with wigglers. But I wasn’t expecting to see golden twitching/bouncing beans with tiny tails. :hilarious: I know my gudgeon offspring went through the wiggler stage too, but the nest wasn’t out in the open so I didn’t get...

    Bolivian Ram spawn log

In your experience, how many days did yours typically take to reach free swimming after hatching? Generally I've seen 3-5 days as an estimate - wanted to make sure that's accurate. I'm trying to decide when to start my BBS culture - thinking a few days after hatching or so. I also have a vinegar...

29 Gallon Tank Peacock Gudgeons & Forktail Rainbows

Better to err on the side of more female gudgeons rather than more males if possible, but somewhere between a 1:1 or 1:2 M:F ratio should work. 6 to 8 total should be easily doable; I have 8 (3M:5F) in a 20 gal long and they have plenty of room. You could do similar numbers of forktails...
