I'm nearing completion of a ~380-gallon tank that will be part of a decorative aquaponics system...and serve as a new home for JJ and Lucy -- my sweet 7yo comet and 6yo 'common' goldfish.
While I'm thrilled to be providing my great big fishy babies with a big upgrade...
Thanks so much for the feedback! I really appreciate it.
I should have mentioned that the new 350 gal tank is going to be part of an aquaponics installation...so there won't be a filter, just a pump.
Your fish sound very happy. Congratuations! :)
I would love to get opinions on the best substrate for large comet goldfish.
I have 2 large goldfish--one lovely comet and one adorable...spheroidal model.
They currently reside in a 55-gallon tank with a thin layer of aquarium gravel as a substrate.
I'm working on a 350-gallon...
I'm in the process of building a free-standing 'indoor pond'.
It has a wooden frame that is lined with an EPDM rubber liner. It's an 'L'-shape and will to fit in a corner. As designed, there are 2 peek-a-boo viewing windows on the front faces of the 'arms' of the unit.
Do you think there would be an issue with water temp? From what I've read, guppies prefer slightly warmer water (72-82) than goldies (68-74). I've had male guppies in a tropical community tank, but that tank, of course, had a heater. The new aquaponics tank won't have a heater and will just be...
I'm currently working on building an aquaponics system that will include a tank that holds roughly 325 gallons of water. I'm going to be housing my 2 large 'common' goldfish, JJ and Lucy. JJ is a comet. Lucy is...round.
I know there aren't many tankmates for goldfish other than some...
We're preparing to move across the country and have 2 large goldfish and 1 large pleco that will be moving with us. We want to make the process as smooth as possible for our fishy friends.
Does anyone out there have any good tips, dos and don't, etc?
Thank you, Coradee!
In her hospital bowl, I've been treating her with scaled down doses of Melafix. I think her cheek is already looking much less red. I've also ordered some aquarium salt. It will be arriving in a couple of days. I'm going to clean her tank, toys, and living plants. Then I'll...
Our sweet betta, Sugar, has been struggling lately.
I posted last month about a mysterious white 'lichen-like' growth she had developed over her left eye (pictured below). I took photos to our LFS and spoke with one of their aquatics experts. He couldn't provide a solid diagnosis and...
Over the past year, Sugar has developed this strange 'white spot' which resembles a lichen over her left eye. I noticed that it has a black pit (lesion) in the middle of it. When I went and spoke with a local fish expert at our LFS, he recommended treating her with a product called 'FishKeeper.'
