Yes, people DO keep neons in groups of 4-5 but that doesn’t mean it should be done. Years of fish keeping experience should tell you that’s not a very healthy environment for them. A five gallon is not a happy home for schooling fish

Sorry, did you mean you saw some people with 4 or 5 neons or 4-5 guppies?

Neons need schools of 6+ and need a 10 gallon at the very least, preferable 20. With a 5 gallon you might can do 3 make guppies if you keep up with water changes and a good filter
