I hail from California and attend college in Oregon where I have my single betta, Epsilon. He isn't my first betta, but the first I've had and taken care of on my own. In the past, I've had freshwater tanks with black skirt tetras, neon tetras, and some other communal tropical fish.

The story of how I acquired Epsilon is whimsical. In college, I am a biology major and for an animal behavior class, we did a series of experiments on Betta splendens. They were harmless, I promise. We just wanted to study their behavior, specifically what causes them to flare their operculum. In order to do so, we presented various color/shape pieces of clay. Luckily(?) for me, my fish was very relaxed and passive and gave us horrible data for the experiment. In the end, no one opposed the idea of me taking him home lol.

How we came across the name Epsilon is another whimsical story, but we can save that for another day.
