Do you put something on the scratchy side of your magnet scraper?

I don't think I have it backwards, because the scraper holder is on the side that I'm putting inside the tank. I did a couple passed with it and there were still some lines, but maybe I need to just do it more. I am also using a mag float.

Do you put something on the scratchy side of your magnet scraper?

when I use the magnet scraper it tends to just leave lines in the algae on the glass instead of getting it all off. Does anyone have any ideas on how to optimize this?

Help! I don't know why my sucker mouth cats are dying.

I have a 29 gallon with 6 cherry barbs, 1 german blue ram, 3 Super Red BN plecos. The bristlenoses are small and they were quarantined before I added them for two weeks. They were active in quarantine and they all seemed like they were eating. One of them was a little less active, but not by...

    New Super Reds darting around

Yeah I've seen people sticking it on a fork or getting a little veggie weight. My little guys are a little over an inch so I think they're old enough. Thanks for the tips! I can't wait until my little BNs are as beautiful as Elbert!

    Do you name your fish?

I tend to name schools of fish something, like I have 6 cherry barbs and I just call them "the squad." It definitely doesn't change the amount that I care for each and every fish, because I know each of them and I monitor all of them meticulously. I think it's just a more convenient naming...

    New Super Reds darting around

Well I'm going to move them into my 29 gallon with a 50 gallon aquaclear filter on it after they're done quarantining and turn the 10 gallon into a GBR breeding tank (hopefully). I will end up doing ~30-40% water changes probably 1-2 times a week. Yeah I'm really excited to start feeding them...

    Do you name your fish?

I name my centerpiece fish usually, but in a community aquarium sometimes it's too difficult to differentiate between each individual member of the tank. My first fish was a goldfish and his name was sage. I got him two friends named izanami and izanagi (shubunkin goldfish).

    New Super Reds darting around

interesting thought. I was thinking of switching to a sponge filter since the filter I'm using right now it's very high quality. I bought it a couple months back to set up a quarantine tank. I'll keep this in mind.

Thanks for the reassurance! I'll always take anecdotal evidence in this hobby, because that's how most of us learn what's normal and what's not.

    Skills gained from keeping fish?

Yeah it's hard to weed through the information and find what really matters in my opinion. Like 1000 sources saying that you HAVE to keep GBRs in soft, acidic water, but if they're tank born and raised they're going to be able to survive in most water parameters. The thing is that the water in...
