Saltwater Lionfish Species

The lionfish species are in general considered hardy and will do fine in a tank that is big enough to adequately keep them. They prefer live foods but can and will eat most everything that is give to your other fish. A good tight fitting hood to keep small hands out of the tank is strongly recommended because of the venomous fins.

Pterois volitans
A predatory saltwater tropical fish with a large mouth and poisonous spines. Be careful around the lionfishes.
Pterois radiata
Radiata Lionfish
Not available as often as other lionfish species, needs a large tank with plenty of rock work for hiding.
