Aquarium Fish Disease

Let's face it. How many of us haven't had to deal with an aquarium fish disease of some sort? This is a serious issue and many times aquarium fish disease can be avoided or prevented altogether by going slowly, following proper acclimation, quarantine and dipping procedures.

There is also the fish tank they are going in to. Is the tank cycled yet? Many times new tank syndrome (high ammonia and nitrite levels) can bring on stress which leads to a whole host of issues, including stress of the fish. A stressed fish will most likely have a lessened immune system which can make it easier for them to pick up a disease, virus or pathogen. Think about it... once the tank becomes established how often are you having to buy medications? A fish that is eating good foods and is being kept in a healthy, appropriately stocked tank is going to be fairly resilient.

If your fish does come down with a disease or illness, hopefully the articles on this page will help get you through it.
