just bought my first coral today

A group of yellow polyps. I'm so stoked!! When I started out with my SW, I didn't even think I'd bother with corals but every time I'd go into my LFS, I just kept being drawn to the area where they keep them.

I'll post pictures in a day or 2 when they open back up.

Argghh...one of my emerald crabs thought that some of the polyps would be a good meal. After looking at the profile on Liveaquaria, I guess I'm going to heading to my LFS for dried sea weed.

Well the dried sea weed isn't working but I put some of my macro algae from my sump into the tank and it's helping. They're still going after the polyp but not as much.

Here's the pic as promised:

Despite keeping macro algae in the tank, I noticed that about a 1/3 of the polyps are now gone overnight. Apparently the crabs decided a that the polyps taste better than well anything else. Any ideas as what I can do to keep my emerald crabs away from them?

Also is there any corals that emerald crabs would leave alone? The LFS that I go to is having a huge sale next weekend with all of their livestock 50% off and I'd like to pick up a couple but I'll only do if I'm fairly confident the crabs will leave them alone.

I was always told that emerald crabs were reef safe ! But my friend say, "never believe everything you are told". If there is not enough algae growth in your tank, you must supplement the Emerald Crab’s diet with nori and meaty foods as well as some macro algae.

Apparently not. Wolfgang had the exact same issue with his emerald crabs. He ended up taking his back.

I noticed to keep my emerald happy is I spot feed it rotifers with an eye-dropper. It seems to love the spot feeding and leaves my corals along.

Congrats on the first coral. It looks great. Are they just yellow polyps? or do they have a different name?

Those are yellow polyps. And thanks for the advice. Not sure if I'll be able to spot feed as they're both a bit skittish. But I'll give it a go.

I slowly move my hand and eye-dropper towards the crab then it starts grabbing at the end trying to get the food. Mine is extremely skittish too, but when it comes to food, mine loves me. And thanks, I would have to look into getting some of them for myself.
