I am starting up a 30 gallon tank. After it is cycled I plan on buying zebra danios first because of their hardiness and ability to calm other fish. On FishLore I read about zebra danios and it says compatible tank mates are tetras, corys, and other danios.

I want to get dwarf and/or pearl gouramis, oto cats..will this be a problem with the danios?

I have 3 Ottos just added to my 29 gallon tank on Friday with danios and they get along just fine. In fact, the ottos try to keep up and swim with the danios. It is a very very active little party with all of them together and the tank is so clean! Their other tankmates are a male betta, and some juvenile mollys.

So they are peaceful fish? Have you noticed tham nipping at the betta?

Yup. I can see them from where I am typing and while they play chase with each other and the ottos all day they completely ignore the betta and vice versa. One of the danios has a bit of a nip out of its tail, who knows where it came from, and the Betta is just fine. Overall it makes for a very very active community tank.
