violent Danio

hey everyone, i have 4 zebra danios in a 60L/15Gal tank and they have been fine for the last few weeks up until yesterday when i noticed they had started to fin nip alittle bit i had a look at all the fish swimming around my tank and noticed one had what looked like blood down the around the gill area running down to underneath its mouth. the other 3 danios seemed to all be focusing on chasing after this one fish (female).

what should i do. add more danios would it exacerbate the situation? should i get a little box (like what people have fighting fish in) to get my seeminly injured fish away from the others.

just to add that the fish who is injuried it is swimming and feeding fine.

I would suggest you get 2 more Danios try to get females so the males don't gang up on one. Which sounds like what is happening in your case, try to seperate the injured danio from the others until you can can 2 more.

Hello Feehan. If you have it on hand, a bit of garlic juice in your tank may help the fish to heal a bit quicker. It acts as an immune system booster. Just a drop or two should be fine. Vita Chem may help as well. I think two more female Danios would do well in your 15g tank as metal fish mentioned. . That would make a nice little school and also hopefully curb some of the aggression. If the fish isn't injured too badly then I would consider leaving it where it is. Stress of moving issues need to be considered. If it's still being picked on separation may be necessary until it heals.
Best of luck! Keep us posted.

hey everyone thanks for the feedback, the garlic juice is a genius idea.

i have been monitoring them very closly and the aggression i think might of just been a one off the incident or a nip that had gone wrong. the fish have calmed right down now and are playing again nicely. the injured fishs cut had gone by the tuesday (first saw them on sunday) and looks fine i have been keeping very close tabs on her.

i will be getting extra female danios though hopefully at the weekend. as well as some new plants. i keep getting little snails pop up dont know where they are coming from there are 4 really small ones now lol

thanks again on the advice

Not really. 11 small fish such as Danios or Neons should be fine in a 15gal with good maintence and regular water changes.
