Question: Will zebra danios eat pet shrimp?

Just out of curisosity, will zebra danios attack and eat host and/ or red charry shrimp?

I'm thinking about getting two or so shrimp, but I'm not sure if a danio would try and eat it or not?
Anyone else have an idea?

I'm sure that they'd be curious about the shrimp...not sure if they'd snack or not though

Hello Betafish,

I've had Ghost shrimp in the tank with my Zebra Danios and they paid no attention to them. However, the shrimp were not as active as they would be if they had been in their own tank.

thansk everyone for your replies.... what do u mean by not as active robin? don't mean to sound rude.... like were they scared of the fish, or was it that they didn't have as much space to move around..... ??

Hi Betafish,

Your question is not rude..... I suppose the shrimp felt as if the fish could be predators (although the fish were not). I have cherry shrimp now in a tank all to themselves and they are all over the place "picking" and searching for microscopic food.... The ghost shrimp never were like that. They did hide a bit.

Ive had two 1cm cherry shrimp in a tank with 8 danios(3.5-4cm) for a while now and the shrimp have survived. if you are concerned you mite want to add some java moss for the shrimp to hide in (once established will grow like crazzy)
