are they fighting or just playing?

hey guys im new to this please help... in my 30 gallon tank i have 6 zebra danios (glofish). they seem happy. but i see that one little bigger than others in size kinda always chasing others. and others dont seem to like go near him. are they just playing or should i separate his from others? how can i tell if the one is being territorial and bullying others or just playing? how can i tell the difference?

if it is chasing the smaller one i would suspect that it is bullying it. but dont take it out right away i would watch closly if u see the tail and or fins of the smaller one starting to look like they are being torn or if they have little bite marks in them then it might be a good idea to place it in another tank. but i cant imagen glow fish accualy killing other glowfish.

i agree, sounds like he's being aggressive towards the other. if you notice any injuries including fin tears, nipping, etc. i'd recommend removing him from the tank for a few hours or a day, moving some of the decorations around, and re-introducing him. if you don't have another tank that you can put him in, you can put him in a bucket full of clean water as long as you have an extra heater. if not, then you can just try to re-arrange the decorations.

i have 3 zebras, i'm guessing they are male, they are thin, and 2 golden danios, i'm guessing they are females cause they are fat. the 3 males chase each other and the other 2 golden ones. they flare at each other much like the SFF. i reckon they are just "sparing", not necessarily fighting.

I don't know if small fish (not Dolphin size) play. How long have these fish been in your tank ? Sounds like big guy is telling everybody he is boss. Normal. I hope little guys have a place to hide. Does food get spread out in tank so every body gets a chance ?

yeah food gets spread out. but the big guy has occupied nice space in the tank near the bubbles and waterfall from filter. and most of the top of the tank. doesnt want anyone comes around that area... poor lil guys are usually near plant, and in middle and down of the aquarium. the big guy is certainly living his life. I was planning to add 6 neon to this tank.. but with this big bully around should i even consider this? or these chase neon/cardinal tetras too?

Big guy is silver or goldenish? I have zebras. They are just having fun... wait till you see them spawn.... they are really aggressive. The female always has scratches after those session. Have to remove coconumt husk or things that can hurt them.

Day time the male will chase the bigger female.... Then night time seems the female will chase back the male. Unless it is mating... which the male is persistent!!
