leopard Danio

hey guys. will a leopard danio mate with any other type of danio like a zebra? i have a whole shoal and i would like to have them lay eggs. i know that the 4 zebras will eventually lay eggs but will the leopards have eggs with them? i have 2 leopards so its either the zebras or the leopards. thanks!

They might, but are the zebras all female? If they are, and the leopards are both male then its likely to happen. Remember, female zebras have silver stripes and males have gold.

Yes, zebra and leopard danios will interbreed. The leopard pattern is recessive though, so crosses will all have stripes rather than spots.

Same as zebras. If they're in good condition and mature, the females will be plumper in the body, with rounder bellies, and the males will be slender. Plus the males will often have a yellowish tint to the fins. Ours at work here get fed a lot of baby brine shrimp so the yellow's really pronounced on the males, I'm not sure if food might affect the colouration, though, so if you're feeding something different it might not be as obvious.

I'll try to get some pictures for you if you think that might help. It might take a few days though, since I have a lot going on lately!

Leopard and zebra danios are the same type of fish, its just chance whether the babies are striped or spotted!
