| Are all danios as hardy as zebras? Are all danios as hardy as zebras?
I am getting my 5th tank on saturday and I want a hardy fish, and I know for sure that zebra danios are because I have cycled all my tanks with them.
I am just curious wether all danios are as hardy as zebras, because I want a mixed school of zebras, golden zebras, long fin, leopard, and giants.. are they all as hardy as each other? Thankz |

| Well I have only experience with Zebra danios but they too can die just as all tropical species if conditions are not correct |

| I know the answer!!! All danios are as hardy as zebra and school together. I cycled a 20 gallon tank with 2 zebras, 2 blue long fin, and 2 yellow long fin, and the only one who didn't make it was one zebra.
I still have 3 of the other ones including one that went through my filter and lived!!! |

| I really would not encourage cycling a tank with danios, no matter what kind. Id say most of them are hardy, but that does not mean the ammonia does not hurt them. |

| I understand were your coming from i was just asking wether they were hardy because they would be at my mums house and get a 25% water change once a week. I wasnt going to cycle the tank with them(i used establishd gravel/filter.. I just wanted to know if they are strong enuf to last a week in between my visits. I understand your concern
I did once cycle my tanks with these fish becuase i didnt kno any better and was told to do so by the petshop. |

| I think they are hardy enough to last a week... a 25% water change weekly is a pretty good schedule. It sounds like you are a very good aquariist (is that a word?) They are probebly one of the easiest keepers. I would say yes! |

| Thanks, yea 25% a week seem very little to me because I do atleast two 25% water changes in all my tanks a week but i wouldnt be able to do that with the tank at my mums. |

| I had no other choice for cycling my first tank, because I couldn't find a artificial ammonia supply anywhere. 25% sounds Like alot a week Wheres I do around 10 % a week! I think they would be fine for up to 3 weeks without a water change, if they had good filtration. |

| I heard about the fish food but doesn't that lead to high phosfurus levels |

| Cycling an aquarium with fish food does produce high levels of phosphates and encourages algae growth. There are several products that remove phosphates from water, including carbon based filters;and of course water changes remove it as well. |

| When I did a fishless cycle, I used straight ammonia. It is inexpensive, and effective. It took my 20 gal. about 3 weeks to cycle and didn't make a mess. I was told to use ammonia that had no additives. It can be found at the supermarket. |
