Leporinus fasciatus

I saw these in a LFS last night and found them facinating. leporinus fasciatus. What do you know about these..they look like they would be agressive..maybe cause they are wasp colored.

Hi Phinny
They will be slighlty aggressive to others of the same species but are usually peaceful towards other types of fish .

They get over 10 inches and are schoolers who need a minimum of a 75 gallon tank.
They are also aggressive to anything smaller than they are.

They are also apparently fin nippers, which I found out online AFTER bringing my brand new one home from Petsmart. I mentioned we have an angel when I listed the potential tank-mates and BOTH salespeople said it should be fine.

It's tiny right now, but we'll have to keep an eye on it, possibly set up another tank if there is a problem. This guy seems to get along with everyone...so far...

Also, the little description card at PS said max size 6 inches----yet every online resource says 12".

Even though the originan thread was posted in the Danio sub forum you do know it's not a danio right? danios are really cool, wouldn't want them getting bad rep by association

I just did a search for the fish name, and this thread came up. I didn't really notice it was in the danio section, sorry.

No problem I just didn't want you to be misinformed as to what your fish is

I have one of these fish temperment is kind of like a red tail shark but I found out that they get very large. I inherited mine with a tank that I got from a friend at work but have seen them at the LFS around 12" in length.
