Glo-Light Danios? -- Pretty in Pink!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ayphotohosting

I had never seen these before. Are they hard to raise?* They sure are pretty!!* *

I wonder if they would go in with a Betta...

Probably the fins look too fancy, but I do wish.

They are exactly the same as normal Zebra Danios. They have them at a LFS near me and they were entirely normal.

They could go in with a Betta if the tank was large enough - they are really energetic and swim ALOT.

Re: Glo-Light Danios? -- Pretty in Pink!

The LFS in my city have them also. They are in a huge community "show" tank, and yes, they do fine with Bettas. (The shop has a beautiful red male Betta in the tank also.)
The fish manager told me that they inject the eggs of long-finned danios with the DNA of sea anenomes, that's why they "glow." You just want to be sure to have a good light source for them, as they don't keep glowing without it. Something about they absorb the light, and then emit it back out......
$25 for ten doesn't sound bad at all!! They go for between $5 and $7 each at the LFS..........

S.

(I wanted some..... but thought it would be a terrible risk in a "young" tank.)

Rose, ive got two long finned Danios with Sherlock in his home, they seem to get along fine, they just leave each other alone, but you know bettas, some might not like any friends!

Re: Glo-Light Danios? -- Pretty in Pink!

I did some searching on these, and there are two different fish. Glowlight Danios is a true species just discovered in 1997, and while pretty they don't have the color or fluorescence of what are being called my most as "Glofish". I was concerned that the Glofish may just be artificially dyed zebras (dyed fish typically don't iive long and eventually lose the color).

Here's a site on Glofish

http://www.glofish.com/

and the picture link:

Here's a site on how they were developed - they actually are genetically engineered - not dyed!

I've yet to see these in my area.

my lfs has them for sale!!! he got them just before the government stopped all the stock coming in. Their genes are so strong that you still get the "glo" after mating them with normal zebras (according to the shopkeeper). They are very expensive though.. about $15 each
