What hardy fish go well with zebra danios?

I'm new here and I'm not exactly sure where to put this question. Anyway, I was wondering what types of hardy fish would go well with zebra danios? I have three in a five gallon aquarium and I am thinking of adding more fish. But I'd really prefer hardy fish because I have had one in the past and didn't do enough research on it and it died.

If I don't get another type of fish to add to my zebras, I'm thinking about getting more of the same kind. I know that there is a rule of thumb to have one inch of fish per one gallon, but I've read that you can have more zebras then that rule would otherwise allow. Is this true? Thanks for all of your help.

HI BEGINNERFISHLOVER! WELCOME TO FISHLORE!

I don't want to disappoint you, but a 5 gallon tank, just can't take more fish! If you want more interest, you could add plants, or shrimp. OR an apple snail. Both shrimp and snails don't really add much bio load, and do help clean the tank, and eat algae.

If you are set on more fish, you could get a 30-55 gallon, after it is cycled, put the fish you have over in it, with some more. Then you could turn your 5 gallon tank into a betta tank, and you could join that BETTA CROWD here!

Yep, I think really the only thing that you could add without overloading is shrimp. I bet your danios would like a school though, and I bet you love getting a new 30 gallon tank

Yes, I would love to get a 30 gallon tank. Unfortunately, I can't. Oh well, I'll just stick to what I got.

About the shrimp: can you get them at...say...PetSmart? Or is it something you have to buy online? I better to a lot more research before I deside to do that, though.

Hi!

Ghost (AKA Glass) shrimp are readily available at pet stores. Check out these sites for shrimp info - www.PlanetInverts.com and www.PetShrimp.com.

Thanks for the info. They actually are kind of cute! I will definetly look into this. So, after reading on www.petshrimp.com it said that you really shouldn't have them with fish. Is that true?? It said that your fish may eat the shrimp or your shrimp may grab the fish. Ugh, that would be a mess. Are glass shrimp the best shrimp to start out with? I know I am asking a lot of questions, but I so appreciate your help, everyone!

Hi!

This could be a worry - especcialy with the Danios in such small numbers. Provide plenty of caves though - and they should be OK. Java moss is the best thing since water for shrimp - well worth it.
