yo-yo loach.

hey guys;
well recently I purchased a yo-yo loach. I'm not quite sure about the basics of keeping a yo-yo loach; in fact 1 of the reasons we got it was because of our snail explosion (thanks to those of you who helped us with ideas on our last thread!) so I was wondering about the basics of a yo-yo loach
e.g: food it eats, does it poop alot etc...
thanks any info is helpful!!

YoYo's are the most likely loach to go after snails. They do like to be kept in groups somewhat....if you have the room, I would get at least a couple more.
In addition to snails, they like bloodworms, even little pieces of chicken heart! They are very aggressive eaters, and will overeat any chance they get too. Anything that is bottom fed, like sinking pellets, algae wafers, shrimp pellets...they will eat...they are not picky. Loaches need a well maintained tank...they are sensitive to water parameters.

They actually do best in groups, I'd recommend 3 minimum. They grow to 5-6" and are very active at night, while semi active during the day. The most active mine get are around dusk, when the sun is setting. They sit on the glass of the front of the tank, right under the current where the filter pushes against. They sit there and just swim upwards for a while, getting the corys to do the same with them after awhile.

These guys eat anything.. seriously. I give them a high quality flake food, and feed the whole tank 1 whole algae wafer, broken up into many small pieces, so everyone gets some of it. I have gouramis, clown pleco, BN pleco, corys, and the yoyo's in this tank and they all LOVE the algae wafers, so like I said it must be broken in to many pieces. They tend to like the wafer over the flake food, though when I feed them after their fasting day, they tend to eat flakes fine.

Again, these guys are very social, so if you could get at least 2 more, it'd be 'ideal' though I know people who get by with one and they look like they are very happy. I keep my water at 79 for the tank as a whole, and the yoyos seem to like it very well.

Yo yos are very easy fish. Veggie wafers are their favorite food right now. I feed the Omega One brand, and they click like crazy when I feed these. Mine also like tubifex worms once a week, along with omega one flakes and earthworm pellets.
