Yellow Tang Zebrasoma flavescens - Yellow Tang Forum - the Yellow Tang gets to be about 7 - 8 inches (20 cm), lives for 5 to 7 years and likely longer. This fish is an herbivore and needs a primary diet of sea weed. The green and brown seaweeds will be accepted and it can be quite fun watching them tear into it. Not sure how long the yellow tangs from Hawaii will be available due to pending legislation in that state. More details on this tang here: Yellow Tang

Re: Yellow Tang

Not a clue sorry Teri! Can you be more descriptive?
Is it like a growth or a cotton fluffy thing? Is it on his scales or fins?

Re: Yellow Tang

The pink color on the tang seems to be internal There is nothing on his scales or fins I was wondering if it could be something he ate I fed my fish some brine shrimp about 2 days ago?? He doesn't seem to be in any sort of distress I have done water tests and everything is normal also could anyone tell me what to use to clear up cloudiness? I added a carbon insert to my filter system and it helped somewhat but the water is still cloudy? thanks!!!

Re: Yellow Tang

I guess anythings possible! Wierd.. just keep a really close eye on him for now.
About the cloudiness: What substrate are you using? And are you adding calcium or any other additives?
When did you set up the tank?

Re: Yellow Tang

I have exactly the same symptoms on my yellow tang as you described. We were away and came back to find it in this condition. Did you have any luck finding out what it is and. more importantly. what to do about it?
Thanks

Re: Yellow Tang

My Yellow Tang also had this condition. It's quite common with them. This condition is caused by a few different thing.
The main cause is poor water condition. Check you water parameters. My problem was high nitrates !
Other causes are stress and bacteria infection.

I treated my Tang with a few weekly 20% water changes, to improve water conditions. Then started feeding him
vitamin soaked seaweed. He was all better one week later !

Hope this helps.

Re: Yellow Tang

I agree with agansoo - Regular water changes and highly nutritious foods should help.

I have a yellow tang that absolutely loves those dried sea veggies that come in sheets... Get a clip with a suction cup (find them in the fish section at the store by the fish food) and put about a strip of it in the clip, affix it to the tank glass and your tang will love it. Higly nutritious and the kind of stuff they like to eat in the wild. I also feed the tang Ocean Nutrition's Formula 2 flakes - which includes extra algae.

Re: Yellow Tang

My science teacher never had this problem because he did what mike does. Every couple of days he would put in a dry seaweed sheet, and once in a while a lettuce leaf. As for the food, he fed it this frozen stuff...I cant remember what it was called, but it was in cubes and all you had to do is thaw it in a cup of the tank water, stirr it, then dump it in.
