Dead saltwater tank decorations

Anyone, I have a 30 gal saltwater tank with fish, rock (not live) an annenomi, hermits, a couple snails and urchins. I found a sponge and a couple dead sea fan branches on the beach today. Will these harm my tankif I place them in for decorations?

They can potentially add disease into the tank and when they begin to decay, it will add ammonia to the system. Any rock you added to your system will eventually become live.

How old is your system?

System is about 2 years old. We go out and pick up new stuff all the time, let the old stuff go. Typically I take the rocks out monthly and let them sit in the sun for a couple days put them back in white. found a couple dead sea fan trunks i put in on Saturday, now you got me thinking of stuff decaying......

If fans are dead athat they are cause the rolled up to beach . let them dry for two weeks till they feel like wood then rinse them well in fresh water and dry them again and you can use them for decorations . as for sponges do not use them will cause problems.
