| Hi everyone! Hi, I'm new to fishlore and I was wondering if you guys knew what type of fish I could get for my tank? I have a betta fish and 2 corydoras. |

I don't think you can get anymore fish for your 10 gallon unless you add a few more cories. I'd suggest getting some snails to accompany your betta rather than risking your cories getting hurt by your betta but it all depends on his behaviour and personality. Different bettas, different behaviours and personalities. Best of luck and hoping to see some photos soon. |

I really have no clue but I'm thinking out loud and I'm sure and hope others will confirm or infirm. Would shrimps be safe with a betta? If yes, then it would be cool to have some shrimps in. |

| Shrimps would make a good addition too but they'd still required some good hiding spots and plantation. |

I agree that you should not get any more fish. Bettas are best kept alone actually. Some people have success with keeping corys in betta tanks, others do not. It depends on the betta really. I have one betta that won't even stand having another fish on the same shelf as him. I wouldn't even try to add something to his tank. Corys are also schooling fish and prefer groups and a bit more swim space. If you want to add more corys you would need to get a larger tank. A 20 gallon would be good, just make sure it is properly cycled before adding them. I see you do not know about the nitrogen cycle. It is one of the most important aspects to fish keeping. You can read and learn all about it HERE! There is allot to know about fish keeping and the people here are really helpful. If you have any questions about anything, please feel free to ask!
Oh and cherry barbs are renowned fin nippers, IMO they are not suitable tankmates for bettas. They tend to find their long fins irresistible. |

a snail and maybe some pygmy cories could work..but each betta tolerates or DOESNT tolerate different things...I wouldnt try barbs or other fish as he will be more aggressive with fish that swim middle/top areas of the tank.....shrimp could work with a ton of hiding plants but bettas main meal is shrimp and they love it! |

| I sorta know about the nitrogen cycle and my betta is very friendly, I know he is friendly because he barely ever flares up at the mirror in my tank |

| Welcome and I agree Male Bettas tend to be loners. Glad he is good to the cories. Also cories prefer to be in groups 3 minnimum. |

| I'm glad you've got a friendly betta! Some of my bettas are in divided tanks where they can still sort of see each other and they do fine. 2 of mine need to be housed separately, like I said it depends on the betta. Also keep in mind that bettas can easily change their minds about tank mates. Some people will keep them successfully for months with other fish only to have their betta get fed up one day and go on the attack. I'm not saying you will have that problem, it's just something to keep in mind. |

| My betta is always at the top, most of the time he rides the current of my filter and the only time he goes to the bottom is when he tries to eat with my corys |

| Bettas are not really top dwellers per say. They will use every inch of tank space you give them. They need to have free access to the top since they are labyrinth fish that need to breathe from the air as well as using their gills under the water. Middle dwellers would still be an issue because they would still be in the betta's space. Bottom dwellers are really the only option with bettas and even that is dependent on the betta. Corys are your best bet. In a 10 gallon the only suitable corys are the pygmy corys which should be kept in groups of 3 or more due to their schooling preferences.
I'm sorry if we are not giving you the answers you like, but our advice is based on what is best for your fish. Sadly that has little to do with what we like or what you might like. In the end, fish keeping is about the fish. Last edited by Prince Powder; February 16th, 2010 at 12:20 PM.

| I don't think he has Pygmy Cories. They're bigger than Julii Cories, the ones I have. I don't know if that means anything or not. |
