Hi all! My name is Paige and I live in Northern Arizona. I was bitten by the fish bug (more specifically the
betta bug) two years ago when I lived in an apartment and couldn't have a dog or cat. So, a fish was the logical choice. After purchasing a Marineland Hex5 and stocking it with three tiger barbs, my son (then 3) decided to help Momma and feed the fish, but dumped the whole jar of fish food into the tank and killed the poor little 1" tiger barbs. So, I decided to tear that tank down until I had the time and money to deal with it and bought a little 1gal betta tank with air stone and "hood" at Walmart and put a beautiful little blue/crimson VT male betta in it. Al lived for a year and a half in that little tank until he died quite suddenly after a tank cleaning back in 2008.

I immediately replaced him with a GORGEOUS blue/crimson/turquoise CT male who was name Al. A year and a half later, I still have Al the CT, but unforunately he seems to be deteriorating quickly, despite my best efforts to prolong his life. He has been a joy to own, however, and will be greatly missed.
On to the rest of the betta kids! I recently lost seven of my nine female bettas that I had in my 46gal bowfront tank to an outbreak of ick (that'll teach me not to quarantine before adding new fish!

), so I am slowly rebuilding my sorority. However, the 46gal is going into storage until such time as I can afford to turn it into an angelfish community (almost a bio-tope if it weren't for the congo tetras!) later down the road. I am going to pick up a 50gal today (hopefully) to replace the 46gal because I learned the hard way that the 46gal is just too deep for the bettas after losing two of my females to swim bladder issues. Currently in the 46gal there are five platies (my son's Christmas present...three sunset coral dwarfs, one dawn and one marigold variatus), four male fancy guppies, one guppy juvenile, two otocinclus catfish (one of whom is missing an eye) and one upsidedown catfish. I also have two 10gals set up currently. One was going to be a nursery tank for the guppies (it currently has three females, two of which are pregnant; two female VT bettas; and five or six guppy juveniles), but it is going to become the tank for the male guppies since the female bettas and the male guppies don't get along in our house and the female bettas take presidence, so they get the bigger tank. :P The other 10gal is a breeder tank currently in use by my other CT male, Alec, (he's turquoise/crimson/purple) who is hopefully going to be bred to my CT female, Alice, in the next couple of days. The Hex5 is back up and running and is now home to Al, the original CT male. I have several other smaller 1.5-2gal tanks that are temporarily housing male VT bettas until I can afford to purchase a 20gal long tank and divide it into a betta fraternity. So, that's all there is to know about me and my betta kids. Look forward to meeting everyone and hopefully sharing insights!
