Hello from a Not-so-Newbie

Hello all from Charlotte, NC, USA. I'm just an old timer who returned to the aquarium scene about a year ago after many years being away. I found these forums by accident one day and I'm glad I did. A lot of information and opinions posted in here (and some of my own already). I used to raise livebearers and cichlids years ago, and had successes, and failures. No longer interested in raising fish - just enjoying them. And fighting the same problems at times that everyone does - water quality, diseases, fish losses, etc. Sometimes it can get pretty discouraging trying to solve problems when the causes and cures aren't evident, but it's a challenge and a re-learning experience.

Welcome back--I'm also a newbie (okay, a month old!). Thanks for the addition to my post on the fish disease forum...it's always good to hear everyone's opinion/advice!

Re: Hello from a Not-so-Newbie

Terry, It is always great to renew old interests. Fish seem to be one of those things that has appeal for many people for very different reasons. Myself, I stress much less than I did 30 years ago while trying to keep an aquarium. I have more time to learn how to do it right, and don't get attached to one fish quite like before. I can also afford to get the really great fish that years ago I didn't even know existed! That is my biggest problem, I can't say no to a really neat fish.

Re: Hello from a Not-so-Newbie

Thanks for the reply hellos! I really don't get all that attached to my fish as individuals, but when I lose one I feel like I haven't done my best in proving what they need. It seems like I'm often fighting problems with water quality, diseases, etc. and I just want to be able to enjoy the fish without anything beyond normal maintenance. There are times I've come close to just abandoning the aquarium scene again , but when things are going well it's too enjoyable!
