Hi guys, My name is Mark, I'm 38 years old, and have just discovered the wonderful world of Fish keeping.

I currently have a 30 gallon 3ft tank, and also have a 2ft tank cycling as we speak. This is to house my male betta that I currently have in my communal tank. He's acting the perfect gentleman just now, but I don't want to take any risks with him getting his tail nipped constantly, or him freaking out and killing the rest of my fish..lol

I have been told that my tank is currently overstocked, and my choice of fish was a little 'Risky'

This is what I currently have in my 30 gallon 3ft tank:

1 Platy - Yellow bodies with red tails
2 Angel Fish
2 Silver Sharks (bala shark)
1 red tail shark
2 Siamese Fighting fish - 1 male and 1 female
1 catfish
1 algae eater
5 Tiger Barbs
1 Zebra Danio
1 Silver Dollar
2 dwarf gouramis
4 Cherry Barbs
3 Serpae Tetras

I've already posted some pics in the 'Member Tanks' forum.

My tank is a 3ft rectangular tank. So I'm not sure of exactly how many gallons it would hold.

My 3ft rectangular tank is a 30gallon long. Reckon that's what it is?
Post the measurements and we can put them into the tank calculator found under aquarium articles on the tool bar and then we can be sure

Actually my tank is a 28 gallon tank, not a 20 gallon as I stated earlier.

I just did it, and my tank actually has 28 gallons of water in it, with a little room for a gallon or 2 more, so Yeah, I would say it's a 30 gallon tank after all...

Well if it was up to me, I would think that the tank is overstocked. If your angles are anywhere near Adult size, then they are too large for your tank. I would consider to get rid of Tiger barbs. They are a notorious fin nipper and can really harm you angles. I also thin that the bala sharks will get too big and too active for your angels. You might want to consider getting rid of one or two of your more rambunctious species. Silver Dollars also look alot better with a school of four or more. I hope this helps.

My angels are still only young, and nowhere near adult size as of yet. But I do plan on moving them to a smaller 2ft tank eventually.

Welcome to FishLore
I don't know that much about angels, but as they should go into a bigger tank, not a smaller one.

Thats Great. Angles do really well in a limited number of species tank. Try Angles Ram Cichlids and a few tetras. With a lower pH around 6.5 your fish will do great.

I have a ram cichlids on order as well as a Ramirezi...

On a sadder note, I lost my male betta (Naka) today. he got his tail caught in the filter and it got shredded. he couldn't even swim to the surface to breath. I'm gutted over it.I was really bonding with him.

Sorry about your betta!
I would consider making that small aquarium a South American Community tank. You could use the tetras, rams and angles. A few dwarf corys would worlk too.

I'm moving my Cherry Barbs, Zebra Danio, Tetra's, Honey Gouramis, and Platy into the 2ft tank, leaving just my 2 Angels, 5 Tiger Barbs, 1 Red Tail Shark, 1 Plec, 1 female Betta in the 30g tank... I have my 2nd 2ft tank coming tomorrow and I'll be using that for the Bala sharks and Silver Dollar once the nitro cycle has been done.

My 2 Ramirezi and 1 Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid get delivered on Friday, and they will go in the 30g tank with the Barbs, angels etc... Making the 30g tank more of a boisterous community tank..lol But with nothing small enough to get eaten Smile

Welcome to Fish Lore Mark. Hope you enjoy the site. Some good information above. I'm glad to hear that you are going to re-house some of your fish.
Best of luck!
