Cleaning a tank that had fish w/columnarius?

Hi! I just joined. I need to find out how to clean out the tank, gravel, and filter... that my fish(deceased by columnarius) lived in? Or is that possible? I treated them with Furan-2 and they did not make it. I'd like to use the equipment again or is it a waste? Thank you!

Hello FishNShrimp. Welcome to Fish Lore! Sorry to hear about your bout with columnarius. I would boil your gravel and anything that won't melt for just a couple of minutes. As for the tank itself you can use 1 part bleach to 19 parts water to sterilize it. Rinse it really well and give it a double dose of Prime or Amquel +, whatever you use to remove chlorine. Repeat if necessary. Rinse until you longer smell bleach. When you fill it for the last time and you're ready to add fish, give it another does of your chemical of choice to remove chlorine.

I'd be afraid to use old filter media, especially if you've already taken the tank down chances are you've lost the cycle. A possibility the medicines destroyed your cycle as well.

If you have more questions just let us know. Glad you came aboard and I hope you enjoy the site.
Best wishes!
Ken

Welcome to Fish Lore
I'm sorry to hear about your fish
You can bleach the tank and filter using 19 parts water to 1 part bleach. Let it soak for a little while. Rinse until you can't smell bleach. Refill and OD with dechlorinator....let set again.
Empty, and you should should be all set.
As far as the gravel, personally, I'd toss it. You should probably also toss the filter media (sponge/wheel/cartridges) I'd be afraid of not getting the bleach out.

Best of luck.

Ken! lol
