blue angel ram behavior

I have recently 2 days ago added 2 blue ram angels to my tank. I have had fish for app. 15 years or more and had stopped the last time I moved, I set my tank up again and read up on blue rams and was told they need old water tanks so i established and did water changes changed filters and purchased 2 blue angel rams I acclimated and then added them to my tank and all they do is hide when i add food they will nibble but do not come from hiding if the lights are on or off neither in the morning or at night. Is this normal behavior for this tyoe of fish?

welcome to fishlore!!!!! are you talking about the german blue rams? I have never heard of an blue angel ram ...

rams are sensitive and they do take time to acclimate to a new home.....so give it more time..

I will suggest getting an API liquid master test kit when you can as the strips you are using give more false readings and arent very reliable....then retest for ammonia/nitrites/nitrates to make sure everything is ok with the water parameters

good luck! and I hope you enjoy our forum

Welcome!
Blue Ram Angels? Are they Rams or Angels?
Did you cycle your tank before adding your new fish? What are your water readings?
My Rams were very shy when I had them.

Blue Ram Angels

I purchased them through cichlis station and they have them listed as blue ram angels, so I am not sure they are not like the normal angels they look like rams more than angles so I would say they are rams. I am just worried that I have forgot everything I learned in keeping fish, I started when I was 14 in 1973 and I am now 50 and not as sure as was when I had no fear IE: youth!!

Could you post some pics? That would help.
Do you have a test kit to test your water parameters?

I will try to get some pics and I do have test strips but not a test kit I will look into getting the one you recommended

I have just ordered the API master freshwater test kit I will let you know the results in 3 or 4 days, also I will try to send you some pics.

Angel rams are just ballon German ram cichlids. They are flat and disc shaped like an angelfish or discus with the usual German blue ram colorings. The only reason I know this is because my LFS also labels them angel rams.

I used to have one along with 2 blue rams and a gold ram. They were all very active and didn't hide much - be sure your pH is close to or below 7.0 as rams are very sensitive to high ph. Mine didn't last long in my 7.8 ph tap water - I now use RO...
