Hello from NC (newbie)

Hello Everyone,

I just found this forum - not sure why I haven't seen it sooner! I have a 6 gallon freshwater tank with 6 Long Finned Danios. When I started getting a few plants, I found some hitchhikers - pond snails and decided to get some MTS later due to their pretty shells!!

Recently, I discovered some fry so I have set up a 2 gal tank and have the fry in there. To date I have found 26 fry but unfortunately, today I noticed one being moved around by the slow current in the 2 gal; he was dead Won't it take about 4-6 mos for those little guys to get bigger They are still as tiny now as when I discovered them 2 months ago!

I'm glad to be here and hope to read lots of Danio info!

Hi Lucy and thumper!! Thanks for the welcome. This is the first time ever that I've had fry. So everything is new. The fry are so tiny! And Lucy, speaking of cute, your avatar is awesome! I love the cat inside the tank

Welcome to Fish Lore. Yes, the fry will take a bit more time to grow. We'd love to see some pictures if you have the means to do so. Good luck and keep us posted!

Pictures!!

Hello,

Here are some pictures of my tanks & fish. I'm not able to get a clear shot of the Danio fry but here is a link to a picture of what they look like:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/macanthony/504099532/

The 2 gal is where the Danio fry are (which you can't see in the picture).
One of my Long Finned Danios is gold!!! Very pretty... You can't see it in the pictures but the stripes on one of the Danios have a bit of a flourescent blue tint and the other Danios have darker stripes. Does any of this describe a female or male??

Thanks,
Robin

Welcome to FishLore!
Congrats on the fish fry! A larger tank and more frequent water changes will help your fry grow faster 26 fry are awesome, good luck.

Hi Carol! Thanks for the welcome. I only have the 6 gallon tank w/the adults and the 2 gallon tank. I thought the 2 gal. would be perfect for the fry; at least until they get bigger! I try to do a w/c twice a week - a few snails snuck in there on a the plant so they help clean up a bit. I also have a hard time feeding them more than twice a day - in the morning before I leave for work and in the evening when I get home from work....

Hey Beth! Thanks for the welcome.... Ok, let me think - the plants are Java fern, Anubias Nana, marimo balls, flame moss, and I don't remember the name of the taller plants on the sides; I call them stem plants! Thanks for asking....
