Angelfish keep dying

Hi ~ we have a 55 gallon tank that has been up and running with fish for almost a year now. We can not keep an Angel alive for longer than 2 days. We have tried from different pet stores with the same result. They are all babies, so I don't know if that is the issue or if we are just not doing something right. At first I thought it was the temperature, we purchased a tank heater and the water is at 79 degrees. The pet store says that our water is good everytime I take it in to be tested. Everyone else in the tank seems happy and healthy. We have a bala shark, rainbow shark, 2 rosey barbs, 5 danios and an algae eater. The other fish don't seem to bother the angels, they just get in the tank, hide, then die. Can you please help?

Why don't you test your water yourself. I check mine everyday to make sure not is changing.

Hi tink, Welcome to Fishlore!!
Sorry your losing them, that's really hard to watch. I had this same problem with my first batch of baby Angelfish. How big are they?? dime, nickel, quarter?? How are you acclimating them to your tank?? Angelfish can be sensitive to changes. You need to make sure your nitrates are low also. What is your Water changing schedule like? Sorry for all the questions but it will help our members figure out what's happening to your babies.

Hi tink and welcome to fish lore...Sorry too hear about your angels what is your water readings ammonia\nitrates\nitrites\pH you should get your own test kit never souly trust the LFS... The API master test kit is the populer one here...

The only fish I could say for sure that could be your problum is the red tail shark(rainbow shark) they can be aggresive to smaller fish...How old is the rainbow shark? Even if you don't see it, it might be going on at night after lights out...and how do you acclimate the new fish too your tank...

They are probably between dime and nickel sized, we have tried just floating them, we have also tried adding some of our tank water, same results with both processes. My husband does water changes, I would say 25% changes every other week.

Our rainbow is a couple months old, he is probably 2 1/2 to 3 inches long. He seems to be a bottom feeder, doesn't really bother anyone except the algea eater occasionally. We have tried to acclimate the angels by floating and by adding some tank water to the bags that they come from the store in, with the same result.

I'm thinking that acclimating might be the problem. You should be floating and adding water over a period of 1 or 2 hours. I use the drip method now and wouldn't go back to floating and adding water. The drip method just seems to work allot better for me. Also like others have said knowing your exact readings would greatly help too.
