Hello from a lurker.

Hi, I've been lurking around for weeks reading threads. I posted to ask some advice the other night and so thought I'd best properly introduce myself.

I'm live just east of Manchester, UK. I've wanted to keep fish for years but we have 2 cats so my BF always said no. Finally after months/years of pestering he finally said yes as it would give our baby girl something different to point at.

I've got a 35 litre (just over 9 gallon) tall tank which is 2 months old, some plants, and a couple of hardy zebra danios which have survived the cycling process.

I've been to 3 diffent LFS so far and had some very dodgy advise (rinse the filter under the tap every fortnight to clean it... get 6 fish at once, they'll be fine!) So today I'm off to visit another LFS that someone has recommended and hopefully I'll come home with a couple more danios of some variety.

Eventually I want to build up to a scholl of 6 Danios, 3 cory cats, and.... what do you suggest? I'd love 6 neon tetras too but don't want to overstock.

I'm addicted already and keep looking to see where I could fit a bigger tank, or asking people if they want this so I can upgrade

Welcome to Fishlore! A lot of fish stores do give poor advice, unfortunately If your filter needs rinsing, just swish it around in a bucket of tank water. In a 9 gallon tank, you could probably have 5 zebra danios and 3-4 pygmy cories. I wouldn't go with any more fish than that though or you will overstock your tank. If you get a chance to post some pics of your tank, I would love to see them
