| New to the hobby and site 29 gal Hi everyone. new to the hobby and all ready love it, but have already made mistakes by overstocking during cycling. i could always use good info to keep my fish alive. i have a 29 gal with tetra power whisper fine sand substrate. i also have a 30 bubbler stone pump thingy. my tank is well planting with plenty of hiding spaces. will try to get pick. i first stocked with 6 tiger barbs then got geo surnamnes chiclid ,sorry if i spelt it wrong. and the 3 bolivan rams 2 cory cats and 2 otto cats. every one gets along great in my tank and seem to be doing fine, but i am still cycling. i am on week 3 and my water is starting to get cloudy. help i do not want to kill my buddies!! i will post my test results ASAP. thank you http://www.fishlore.com/fishforum/im...lies/scuba.gif |

| Welcome to Fish Lore. It's a wonderful sight with sooooo much information. Chances are the cloud in your tank is an algae bloom. Don't fret it will go away on it's own in time. We'll be waiting for test results. |

| Hi and Welcome,
glad you are enjoying your tank and the site.
As above the cloudy water will be a bacterial bloom, but which bacteria will be revealed when you can post your readings. |

| Hello and welcome to fishlore..
As you already know you have overstocked your tank during the cycle. Its never really a good idea to add fish prior to a cycle, but now that you have there are steps that need to be taken daily. Water changes are necessary now to keep the ammonia that all these fish added to the tank at once is/has produced. You should be doing around a 50% water change daily to keep the toxins down. You didnt mention your water change routine in your OP so thought I would remind you of the need to do this, just in case. If you keep that up and add a water conditioner such as Prime or Amquel+ which will bind the ammonia for 24hrs til the next water change it will help your fish out alot.
Best of luck... |

| hi and welcome to fishlore!
i'm working on a stocking list that should hopefully help you in figuring out what fish might be more suitable for your 29 gallon tank (scroll down a bit for the 29 ) Work In Progress: Freshwater Community Stocking List
for your specific tank, the six tiger barbs are great and you could have a bristlenose pleco on the bottom or possibly an RTS ( red tail shark) |

| pH- 7.6 Ammonia- 4 PPM NO2 1.0 ppm nitrite NO3 nitrate 10 ppm . all numbers are high i think its peaking.i am adding BIOZYME to the tank which i guess releases good bacteria. all my fish seem to be doing fine. im going to cut down on feeding. but the guy at my local fish store told me not to do water changes because i will restart the cycle. and i did one yesterday a 25%. |

| with your mac, just drag the picture into the "downloads" icon right next to the trash can. then click on the "post reply" button at the bottom of the thread (right below the last post). scroll down to a grey box with lots of options then click "manage attachments". then click "choose file" and find the place where your downloads are, and double click on the picture that you want. then click on upload file and post |

It is not self sustaining so you will have to add it to the tank every week forever. By having this bacteria there it inhibits the right vacteria from colonising your tank.
the only product that seems to have the right bacteria in it and that works is Tetras Safe Start product. |

| thanks for the complements. so i went to the huge fish store by my house and they told me to do a 50% water change add prime to tap and add stability to control my cycle. does this sound correct? some of those people at the fish store are real helpful and others seem to just get kicks of how ignorant you are to the fish world so all the help i could get with out the attitude would be great. |

| Welcome to fishlore!
I think it was pretty good advice, except for one thing... I'd agree with all of it except for using Stability. From what I've heard it's not selfsustaining and will crash your tank once you stop using it.
By the way, I love your tank! Reminds me of the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland, lol. |

| Welcome! I am very new to the hobby and Fishlore forums ... But I have learned more from the friendly folks in these forums than I will ever learn from some of the LFSs in my area. I started with a 3 gallon for my son's room, then a 55 gallon, grabbed a 5 gallon and am now cycling a 22 gallon Brackish tank. A 10 gallon is in the plans for my office.
The 22 Gallon tank went perfectly thanks to all the help from these forums, it is WELL on its way to being cycled after only 10 days ... fishless and without additives (I used a powerhead filter from my 55 gallon).
Anyhoo ... I just wanted to say hello and let you know that these folks certainly know what they are talking about... Good luck with your buddies! |

| thanks moe. ya i think sometimes the fish store will tell you anything to sell a fish. i mean if they die you gotta buy more fish right?? mo fish mo money $$$. now i know when i get my next tank i will cycle fish less and do tons of research before i buy. i am hoping to get a tank 55 or bigger and do some buffalo cichlids, and maybe bread, i like them because they got fat heads. if anyone has any and wants to share info i am all ears |
