| New to you but far from new Hi, I just registered a few days ago and was unable to login with Safari so here I am on IE. I am a retired Locomotive Engineer(CNR), had fish when I was a kid and started up again a few years ago, when was the nitrogen cycle discovered?
I have had a 5G/Aquaclear Mini in a reinforced Ikea bookshelf for about 4 yrs and have managed fairly well. A couple weeks back I was whining to the my fish guy that I had nowhere for a larger tank. Of course he points out that I could fit a tall 20 (turns out it is only 15 so my dreams of a pair of Blue Rams are gone, well kinda) with an Eclipse System 1 into the bookshelf. He had a used Eclipse for 20% of new so I went for it and built a beefier stand in the bookshelf for the new tank. I am pretty well ready for setup, checked tank for leaks, but have one question to keep me going. Given the tall tank the filter intake sits about mid-tank, is that OK or should I find a way to extend it closer to the bottom? I have many more Q's but will try to ask them in the appropriate area,
Thx
Wabash
P.S. I live in B.C but want to visit the "Old Country" one day, hence the Ukrainian flag, Last edited by wabash; February 17th, 2009 at 12:14 PM.

| Welcome to Fish Lore
I don't think the nitrogen cycle was discovered as much as research was done to find out what changes a new tank goes through and the effects on the fish.
Mid level should be fine for your intake.
Glad to have you here, enjoy the forum. |

The nitrogen cycle actually was likely discovered in the water treatment industry, giving name and logic to the process that fishkeepers have been working out over the past few decades. |

| I'm using 3.2.1 I can login, it goes to that thanks for logging in page then back to the forum page but shows that I am not logged. I'll try "tossing my cookies" and see if that helps.
EDIT: That did it, I'm now able to login with Safari. Last edited by wabash; February 17th, 2009 at 05:14 PM.

As for the 5, my brother has expressed some interest so I think I will give it to him. What would you put in a spare 5G ?
My current favorite is the Black neon tetra and I am so looking forward to a school of 11 of them in the 20G. |

Welcome to FishLore wabash
For your Mac consider downloading Firefox - works great for me (I've never tried logging in with Safari actually) |

| I'd put a betta or a dwarf puffer. I'm setting up a divided ten gallon so that I can have both! |

The Wabash Railroad itself was real but my name comes from the model name of the old house I live in. Last edited by wabash; March 26th, 2009 at 10:32 PM.
